Possible Kronos One study model

I haven't seen these pictures anywhere before so.....

I happened to be looking at John Eaves' facebook page, and on one of his March 13th entries he posted some detail pictures of the Kronos One model. A person named Jon A. Bell replied with several pictures that he says was a study model built by Bill George as a possibility for the Klingon ambassador's ship, until it was decided just to refurbish the TMP model.

Does anyone else have any clue as to how true this may be? It's an interesting looking model, regardless.

I cannot validate this story about the Kronos One study model. However, it is very well-known that Meyers was under strict budgetary limitations for TUC. Considering how the rest of the starships in play were trotted out from STAR TREK's current stock, I find it very unlikely there was ever any thought given to using anything else but the TMP Klingon Flagship model. I always thought it was much more detailed than it actually ended up becoming. I was surprised by that ...

It's an interesting idea. Nice to see something new. Can't say I'm two keen on the split hull between the forward and aft sections, but over all it's neat. I imagine there would be warp nacelles eventually stuck on as well?

Yep, pretty sure it's legit. I remember talk about this study model years ago, but never thought I'd actually see it. Thanks for posting this!

As for its design...kinda looks more like a Klingon guitar than a ship Also, I'm kinda wondering what the ship's proper orientation is supposed to be. The bridge tower and smaller structure are reversed in location in relation to the D7 and K'T'Inga, so I wonder if the bridge is supposed to be at the rear of the ship and the wings in the front?

If he hasn't seen this already, you might want to let Maurice know. He is in contact with Bill George, and would be able to verify if this is indeed the Kronos One study. But really, why wouldn't it be?

It's a study model not the actual model. Study models are always pieced together to help visualize details and shapes.

But if the model wasn't finished, why was it painted? Usually painting is the last thing you do to a model before it's complete. But I could be wrong too.

It certainly has a rather FASA-esque feel to it, IMO. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'll admit though I rather liked reusing the studio model in the final film.

Me too. It was nice to see the "classic" Klingon battlecruiser on the big screen one more time.

I like it--much better than I've liked any Klingon ship in any of the spin-offs. But it looks like a fast attack ship, not a ship for ferrying the Chancellor of the High Council.

I found my CD from Jon' book and rendered off two frames from his SpaceBattle1 and SpaceBattle2 scenes.

I forgot to mark these Copyright Jon Bell.

I just bought a copy of the old book, and it should be here next week; I wanted to get a good look at the 3D file on the disc.

Do you think you could e-mail me the model in the meantime? I'm curious to look at it.

I'm going to build my own model of this one, for sure.

And then make a 3D Printable version too.
