Porthos appreciation thread

I always thought it was weird for man to go to space without his best friend. Porthos was one of the few things about ENT that I love. Not to mention he was really cute.

Sharing the cuteness...

^Almost choked on the sig, JiNX-01.

I agree w/ you, heavylids. Porthos was adorable. Much more appealing than Spot, even though in general I strongly prefer cats and TNG.

If I ever have a beagle I will name her Trip. Because it's a good dog name. And a good ENT name which points to my ENT-love in having a beagle.

I actually know a dog named Trip. He's an Irish wolfhound--huge, huge dog but very sweet. Before I got around to asking if he was named for the NX-01's chief engineer, I found out they named him Trip because he was so big and gangly that everyone tripped over him.

Why would you name a female dog after a male character?

Why not? It's not like "Trip" is a hugely male name, pretty gender neutral.

I see what you're saying. But what would happen if someone asked you why you're female dog is named Trip? You would have to tell them that it was a male character on ENT. Or you could lie and say she is clumsy.

I would tell them that my dog was named after a character on Enterprise. If they asked me more about this (which is HIGHLY unlikely) then they would find out, through my use of pronouns, that the character was male. If they then asked me why I named my female dog after a male character I would tell them my dog was already SO awesome that being named after a male would not be a social hindrance to her at all. Hopefully this would reassure them that my gender bender nomenclature was not an irresponsible act.
