Portal 2

..is now pre-loading on Steam. Go get it, you monsters.

I didn't see one, so I hereby dub this the official Portal 2 anticipation and discussion thread. This will be a triumph.

And if you have never played the first Portal, I just have one thing to say to you:

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO GET IT! RIGHT NOW!

NO! RIGHT NOW. I MEAN IT.

I DO NOT LIKE VIDEO GAMES AND EVEN I HAVE PLAYED PORTAL! AS A RESULT, THIS THREAD INTERESTS ME!

I'm curious, is J.K. Simmons actually going to play Cave Johnson in the game or did Valve just hire him to make these ridiculously awesome videos?

Can't preload. Ordered the PS3 version since it apparently comes with the ability to SteamPlay it on your PC. Also, only 55 bucks with a 20 dollar amazon game purchase credit... 20 bucks for video games on Amazon is as good as cash for someone like me, so really it's only 35 bucks to have it on both systems

You know I *really* want to get this one but I'm pretty sure my 2.67GHz duel core isn't up to it... :(

Valve's Source engine doesn't exactly have a reputation for being the most resource taxing thing out there ya know. Is it a core2duo? Pure clock speed doesn't mean as much as it used to.

I think if you have a decent video card and a couple gigs of memory you should be fine. Maybe there will be a demo.

I made the mistake of ordering it on Steam before realizing if I had bought it for the PS3, I'd be able to play it on both the PC and PS3. Steam doesn't accept returns, oh well. :o

I'm conflicted on this one. I generally prefer to play games like this on the Xbox so that I can sit back with a controller and relax rather than being hunched over my keyboard. On the other hand, placing portals requires precision and that's easier to achieve with a mouse than with a controller. The Xbox version will raise my gamerscore (yes, I care about the size of my e-penis) but the PC version might be released early on Friday.

Just watching some videos of Portal the other day reminded me of the pure joy I felt playing that game. It's such a simple concept yet it led to mind-bending complexity. Hopefully, Portal 2 wont lose that feeling.

Yeah, it's an Intel Core 2 Duo and I have 2Gb of RAM and an Nvida GeForce GTS250 which I think is a fairly decent graphics card (I'm not exactly up to date on what's "good" these days, hell I'm still running on XP!) According to the system requirements on Steam though, it needs 3Ghz so I might be just under the wire.

I am tempted to just get it anyway and if I can't run it, just hold onto it until I get around to upgrading...but that may not be for a while and then I just know it's going to be dirt cheep come the Christmas sales...

I will get it on Xbox, some nice lazy couchgaming. This is one of my most anticipated titles of this year!

Looks like your system will run it fine

3Ghz only applies to Pentium 4 processors. 2 Ghz is fine for a Core 2 Duo

The minimum requirements are a 3GHZ single core or a 2GHZ Dual core. You'll be able to run Portal 2, but your CPU is a bit on the slow side.

I was planning on getting it at some point when I could get it used at a significantly lower price, but then my brother preordered it for me for my birthday. It should arrive Thursday. :techman:

Going for the PS3 version which will allow me to my bro the PC version that you get free, then we can play some Portal 2 coop cross platform gaming.:)

It sounds like the PC code you get ends up tied to the steam account on your PS3 or something. I'm hoping to be able to do the co-op cross platform with the one copy as well, but I'm not banking on it. But I figure with the amazon deal it's the cheapest way to go regardless of how it works out.

Steam FAQ said:
Can two players play online co-op with each other using a single purchase of Portal 2 for PlayStation®3?

Only PlayStation®3 split-screen co-op can be played using a single copy of the game. When you purchase a new copy of Portal 2 for PlayStation®3, you will receive an in-box code which provides your linked Steam account with access to your copy of Portal 2 on your computer. The game is still owned by only a single Steam account--another copy will be required to play online co-op with a friend.
Split screen will probably work for me. But it's a little disappointing.

You know i never thought of that....oh well....sorry bro.

Ok, after checking with a few "can my system run it" type utilities I'm confident it'll work on a reasonable setting and have now preloaded it and assumed the party submission position.

*looks at the calender*...Sooooo....is anyone else worried that the single player campaign might not be up to much? I only worry because they're marketing the co-op mode fairly heavily, even the cover art appears to use the robots and no sign of Chell at all.
