Popular Sci-fi Shows You Dislike...

What science fiction shows do you disliked or weren't interested in, but were popular? Here is my lowdown:

Much of Season Two, Three & Seven of Star Trek: Voyager, with Jeri Taylor actually being notably blander than Brannon Braga in terms of story ideas, even though she had more decipline in running the series (many individual great episodes can be found in those seasons, mind you).

The X-Files from Season Six onwards; it had a similar pattern of decline like Stargate SG-1 did by running four years too long, but to a much greater extent (at least SG-1's movie spin-offs are harmless fun).

Stargate: Atlantis, from what little I've seen of it and from much of what I've read about it.

Season Seven of DS9 was vanishing up its own backside, but there were still things that I liked about it, while Seasons Three to Six set the bar so high, so the last season was bound to struggle and strain.

Torchwood is actually a wildly successful and popular spin-off, with a reasonable three or four million viewers every week, but its first season was generally more risible than the worst of RTD and embarassingly The Sarah Jane Adventures is much more credible.

The first two seasons of The Next Generation are more risible and awful than the first two seasons of either Voyager and Enterprise, which makes me wonder why those two later shows were supposedly very bad in the first place.

Buffy the Fucking Vampire Slayer, but one good thing came of it, it cemented Anthony Head as a household name.

No surprise here - the modern incarnation of Doctor Who and Torchwood. Overhyped celebrity guest appearance rubbish. "Ooooh, the Daleks are scary, I used to hide behind the sofa whenever they came on" - like f*** you did.

Didn't we have this thread about 2 weeks ago?
And its a pretty boring one at that; people droning on about things they don't like. What thrilling reading

"oooh I don't like TV show X"
*shrugs* great, good for you mate

It can also get boring only reading about what people like.

It's nice to have a variety.

And with the above said, I offer:

Firefly
Lost
Heroes
Smallville
Supernatural

These threads are only entertaining if reasons are given. With that insight into thought processes, there can be good jokes and possibly even changing of minds.

Calling Firefly popular is debatable, given its cancellation and Serenity's box office performance. However, it is a sci-fi show that I dislike. It had some good concepts, characters, and dialogue, but the scripts were pretty ho-hum, and I actively disliked River and the sprinkling of Chinese language into the show.

Whereas I thought those were some of the most interesting parts. To each their own. Now, I know there are fans out there of the Ghost Whisperer and Lexx, but the humdrum scripts of the first and the sheer unwatchable disorganized mess of the second put them on my list.

Dexter has such amateurish dialogue. I don't get why it's popular. I think it appeals to the CSI crowd. Simple-minded and therefore thought-lite TV.

The only really popular scifi shows are The X-Files and Lost. I don't hate either, even though I'd bail on Lost if I could. I must admit that it seems as though everyone and their brother has seen fair amounts of Star Trek and SG-1---but very few people say they like them.

Therefore we could shorten the answering posts considerably. Just write 1 if you hate X-Files, 2 if you hate Lost, 3 if you hate both and 4 if you hate neither.

We are fortunate this isn't a thread about cult favorite scifi shows we dislike, or I'd have to waste more pixels on the topic.

I don't really get everyone being so ga-ga over Heroes. The stories are kind of interesting but I just can't settle into the characters the way I can with my usual favorites, like Star Trek, Stargate, Doctor Who, Torchwood, & Angel.

Firefly- Didn't think it was funny nor particularly interesting.
Heroes- I thought it went downhill fast and it relied on shocks too much as opposed to character development. Similar in a fashion to 24, another show that went downhill.
Buffy- Silly and, agian, not funny. Guess I'm just not a Whedon person.

If your metric is going off of ratings, you'll have to include Star Trek: The Next Generation. You might have to include Heroes--if only for its first season. I can't say for certain how The Twilight Zone did in ratings, although it certainly had a good run of five seasons.

If it's going off of word of mouth, then you'll have to bite the bullet and include Battlestar Galactica or Firefly, although that's going to be skewered by whatever demographic you spend the most time with. Since I'm with the 20-25 college crowd, that's going to go in a certain direction.

And if it's going off of critical response, then you'll have to include Battlestar Galactica.
