I also can't agree with you on the number being above 10,000. Spock's wording made it sound like that was the TOTAL number of ALL Vulcans left, not just those who managed to get away that day.

Orci and Kurtzman have said for the record, that the 10,000 does not include Vulcans who were off planet at the time.
