Pon Farr, and reproducing Vulcan Culture/ P.F. and Surviving Vulcans

Tikkun

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Okay - let's assume that there is plenty of Vulcan sperm and eggs - or whatever they need to make little Vulcans. Let's also assume that there is some form or uterine replicator so that there is no limitation on how many babies can be created.

10,000 Vulcans - we can assume scientists can stir up a batch of 2,500 babies each year - and double the the population in 4 years.

Which will give every available adult and infant or a toddler. Now, raising said infants and toddlers without the support system that Vulcan parents were used to is gonna be interesting.

So - my question is - can the Vulcans both reproduce in large enough numbers - and maintain their culture? How?

Speculation?

Re: Pon Farr, and reproducing Vulcan Culture

They don't have to keep the bloodline so pure. The Vulcans are just so sexy looking that they could easily breed with human females. I'd be glad to help out.

Re: Pon Farr, and reproducing Vulcan Culture

It's pretty scary, seeing those numbers isn't it. I'm not happy at all that Vulcan no longer exists.

I can imagine, to make sure the species has enough genetic diversity, that mothers will be raising children from different fathers, too.

Tapioca, beer, and fiberglass insulation. Massive quantities of all three.

I think old Spock is taking them to Mintaka III. After all, the Mintakans already experienced a violation of the Prime Directive in the Prime Universe, so Spock probably figures, no harm, no foul. ;)

Vulcan survivors

I don't think the 10,000 Vulcan survivors figure is entirely accurate. Vulcans have been in space for a long time. I'm sure they have many large and small colonies out there. Just a thought. Love the move :)

Re: Vulcan survivors

I took it quite literally. I assumed this was the insular Vulcan of the 23rd century and that few had ever left home... I am operating, going forward, on the belief that Vulcans will be a rare thing in this timeline.

Re: Vulcan survivors

I hope there are more Vulcan survivors than 10,000 and would like to see more of them in future movies and series.

Re: Vulcan survivors

In ENT you get the impression Vulcans had many colonies. I, like you, like to think there is a hell of alot more Vulcans around than 10,000.

No planet Vulcan though /cry again

Re: Vulcan survivors

I think that it is more than 10,000.... but not by much.

I have to wonder though: With Pon Farr and all that, it's going to be awfully hard to get that population up.

Old Spock says that he has found a planet in which to start "a colony." Singular. As in, the first and the only.

Re: Vulcan survivors

2 possibilities when the 10,000 was mentioned

1.) it was 10,000 people saved off of Vulcan, the homeworld, only

2.) the 10,000 includes every vulcan in existence, colony and otherwise included

I don't know

But I'm of two thoughts here:

1.) The vulcans have been in space a long time, and have lots of colonies

2.) The vulcans really like to keep close to their homeworld and don't have that thing about us humans that we have about expansion, they are content on their own planet and only use space for exploration, not for colonization

Re: Vulcan survivors

Vulcan WHATS???

Dude, must you crush my hopes over such a small line?

As fascinating as I have always found Spock; Vulcan, and pretty much all other Vulcans have bored me to tears.

I don't think I ever realized how expendable Vulcan was until they blew it up. God help me, I think I enjoyed it.

And I seriously doubt we'll ever spend more than a few moments in reference to Vulcan or colonies in future movies, except to show how even-more-alienated the whole mess makes young Spock feel.

Yes. I must.

Don't be ridiculous. We are talking about the highly controversial part of the movie in which it is revealed that Vulcan's have a version of the show "Survivor". I'm not sure what Abrams was thinking here.
