Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

I'll raise my hand that none of these bother me, except for bad - or almost worse, non-noticeable - 3d, since I wear glasses and have to pay extra for the privilege of having to wear a second set of glasses. :scream:

What really bothers me is really bad CGI, "outdoor" scenes clearly shot on a soundstage, or poorly composited green-screening. That's what really takes me out of a movie.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

I went with 3-D but I'm shocked that JJ Abrams lens flares were not on the list.

Anyone wanna make a bet if he uses them or not in Wars?
Probably not. That was part of the parody. He'd have no reason to use it in Star Wars.

So, basically, ABC's Once Upon A Time.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

My choice isn't on there: trying to make each film bigger, as opposed to better, than the last.

So very much this.

"Okay! Okay! Remember in the first movie we did the thing with the things? Yeah? Well, in the sequel, we're going to add ten times as many things to do them with, and then ten times that just to make it ultra super mega huge!"

All I know is, if the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon looks like a fucking Apple store I'm out.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

I had to see Ironman 3 in 3D though, as the 2D option wasn't available, and the lack of choice is what actually bugs me more.

I actually thought they had sold me a ticket for the 3D by mistake because it said "IRON MAN 3 - D"

The D was for digital. :alienblush:

Heh, now that's a funny one. I could definitely see why someone would be confused by that.

In my case, they limited the number of 2D showings to the point of forcing viewers to pay extra for 3D. This wouldn't be the first time this theatre did something similar. On top of that, the 3D wasn't great.

Shaky Cam for me. Sometimes it's fine, but to me it often seems to be non-stop shaky.

This is recent?

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

I do agree that when a movie is in 3-D, there are less showings of the 2-D version.

Like I mentioned earlier, splitting one movie into two (or three) is a trend I'm not sure if I like

Not recent, but it has become the fallback choice for just about every sequel, whether made for such things or not. I'm surprised there was never a "Searching For Bobby Fischer II: Chess Harder."

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

I don't have a problem with any of them. I barely notice shaky cam or lens flare. I don't even really understand what people are bitching about.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

3D. They charge up the ass for something that doesn't enhance the film at all. A sucky film still sucks if it's in 3D and a great film is still great without it.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

I dont have a problem with any of them if used properly. My experiences with 3D especially IMAX have been great. Of the 3, shaky cam can be the most jarring at times.

There will be a Jack Daniels product placement on Tattooine. Mark my words.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

^^ Something like that is very likely. :rommie: The lens flare was specifically done to mock Trek's clean, optimistic look, like the glint in Guy Smiley's teeth. Everything in SW has that gritty, lived-in look that Abrams prefers, so there won't be anything to parody.

Hmmm... I think that the trifecta of a 3D film using predominantly shaky cam footage in an IMAX theater would be enough for me to puke up a Yugo.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

Shaky cam is so annoying. All this bullshit talk about "gritty realism". Fuck that. News reporters want stable images. And images are only not stable when the shit hits the fan, but that footage is of no use. And in human perception your eyes, head and brain stabalize the images you see.

It's so laughable when the camera shakes even during dialogue scenes. Or when it zooms in and out. Jesus. Get camera operators that don't suffer from Parkinsons, please.

Re: Poll: The "Big Three" of recent annoying production trends in Cin

A little bit of handheld/docu-cam look can be great. Firefly/Serenity and BSG used it fantastically. Not to mention Arrested Development and the whole new genre of pseudo-documentary comedies on TV.
