So ... I've seen the movie three times and generally liked it. I have some issues with it though, and have been arguing with myself over whether I'll see it again before I buy the DVD. The argument got pretty heated at times, so I decided to save myself from self-loathing by putting the matter into the gentle hands of my fellow Trekkies.

Trekkers.

Whatever. Anyway, a decision like this must have weight. Drama. It must be something critical. So let's up the ante. Should I go see the movie again, or buy new shoes for my poor, unshod three-year-old who only wants to run out in the green grass of his backyard without getting stung by bees or cut on broken old beer bottles that somehow got back there, too?

This is easy! You should go see the movie again and clean your yard...that way your little tot can run free in the green green grass and he/she won't need shoes anyway...so there you have it. As far as the bees go...tell the little bugger when one approaches to be "still as a statue" and the bee will leave him alone.

Got any other problems??? I'm here to help...that's just what I do.

Try this: wait for the DVD and/or BlueRay release then you can watch it as much as you want and nobody will have to go barefoot anymore...

Um, I'm assuming you're joking about the shoes. If money isn't an issue then you shouldn't even have to ask if you should see it again. You should be asking if you should take an inflatable mattress and mini-fridge with you and live inside the theater.

Fizzbin, I like your approach; it makes me feel normal. For a moment or two.

^^^ Yeah Jeri...but it's no fun being normal..so glad that feeling is just a passing thing. LOL

While supporting the Trek brand with your dollars is a Good Thing, I don't see much reason to see it more than twice, at least at full price.

I saw it twice on a real Imax, the biggest in Michigan at the Henry Ford Museum, paying $10 each time, which was discounted with a yearly museum membership.

Remember, DVD/Bluray releases are much sooner after the theater run now, and voting for Trek with DVD dollars is just as good as paying at the theater.

Plus, the DVD release will probably be chock full of deleted scenes, some of which appear useful/meaningful. It could be an "extended cut" with extra scenes included rather than as bonus extras, making it a new experience again and worth the time expenditure. I hope it's a 2 disc Special Edition at minimum, maybe 3 disc, though I'm just guessing. I don't own a BluRay player and don't intend to for the forseeable future (against the DRM, Sony, etc).

That said, I might see it again on a local digital cinema screen for $4 or less matinee Saturday morning ;)

Prior to the days of the VCR (I didn't have one until 1984-85), there was reason to see good movies multiple times at the theater, especialy when the 1st run matinee shows were only $1.50-$2.50 (yes, that cheap in the early 80's).

Ahh, the days of seeing Raiders or Wrath of Khan 5-8 times at the theater...

Well, DUH. This is a Star Trek forum, so what did you expect? Three-year-olds don't worry about shoes. Take the child to the theater so he can enjoy it with you.

(sarcasm mode off)

Eh, I trust your judgement. If you feel like seeing it in the theater again, then go ahead.

And to heck with self-loathing. Who needs that shit, anyway?

I've never known a 3 year old to leave his or her shoes on for more than 5 minutes at a time, anyway. :)
