Why would there be cameras on the bridge filming them when we as the audience are supposed to be flies on the wall. ??
If we were flies on the wall, we'd see the picture like in a kaleidoscope, since flies have compound eyes.

My boss is standing right here practically next to me...thank god I was able to subdue my laughter....literally biting my lip. :guffaw:

Although, kaleidoscope McCoy... I could go for that... ;)
Nice to imagine, eh? and nice save -- back on topic. :)

Yes yes back on topic...but if the question was answered in the first post then all this deviating would of never ever happend.

So then I'll phrase it like this to appease all:
Why would there be cameras on the bridge filming hot Nubones, hot nuKirk and semi-hot nuSpock when we as the audience are supposed to be flies with 20/20 vison on the wall. ??

I think rather than making the various scenes feel more "real," Cakes, what the lens flares and shaky cams and odd angles are supposed to do is give them immediacy. Perhaps (?), that's a better word. Whether they actually do that or not is pure opinion, of course, but that's what I think they are supposed to do. I'd say that sometimes, they do indeed do exactly that.

I tried answering it last time you asked.

You're welcome...I thought I had a break through there for a moment..so now I'm back to being confused...which is really what I do best har har...so I need you to answer this then:

Answer me this specific question (or anybody else feel free to jump in) since I just cannot understand the concept (as you can see):
Why would there be cameras on the bridge filming them when we as the audience are supposed to be flies on the wall. ??

I don't think that we're meant to think there are cameras on the bridge. He's not going for reality in that way, but recreating the "realness" of filming in the sixties - before digital cameras and CGI. In it's own way it's deliberately artificial, but it's the mood he wanted to create.

Does that help?

You are confusing yourself, Cakes488, because you have taken Abrams and our use of the word "real" too literally. There's nothing real about this, as you say. The point is, Abrams wanted to make the image slightly flawed - to give it character - like a leading man with a scar over his eyebrow. It's supposed to be sexy, by being rugged, as that looks more "authentic".

The lens flare is actually quite beautiful and not really a "flaw", at all. So, he in fact improved the product, by trying not to smooth it out too much. In not trying to be smooth, the man is smooth. Now that's cool. :D

Not to mention the ship, especially when it went to warp - why is the Enterprise not getting some love? :p

And just how, exactly, would we "hold out"? Are you talking about picketing here or what?
Strike leader: "What do we want?"
Crowd: "Urban in underwear!"
Strike leader: "And when do we want it?"
Crowd: "Now!"

Mind you, you'd almost certainly get some media coverage...

^ Oh, yes. That would just smash it. preferably red underwear. Very small, and very tight.

None of this white business we got the last time. And not even one insignia to be seen. Lord, what is wrong with these people? Don't they know anything?

That's given me an idea... maybe I should sew the insignia on some of my own under things... no one would know, but it would give me a private little frisson to think of it, whilst going about mundane things. :)

Karl Urban is my daddy, my uncle, my brother, my cousin, my male best friend, my dirty priest who doesn't mind that I am athiest.
 That's the kind of reply I like!

I think the lens flares, like the flashback sepia or b&w effect, or the hand-held camera effect, far from meaning to be visually accurate as far as the human eye is concerned, is supposed to create a particular feeling, a mood as TrampleDamage put it. Besides, if the picture was too clinically accurate we'd feel as if we were on the set with the actors, not on the Enterprise bridge with its crew.

Besides McCoy and Kirk look good in lens flare... of course they look good in anything
But they look best in nothing.
Next time, maybe we can hold out for some underwear shots of the good doctor. Promising I think. :D
*Picture-Googlizes Karl Urban*
There's a shirtless one in this series, though it isn't the best in the bunch.
Oh, you know what? I found one that looks a bit as if you're looking at him with fly eyes. Very short depth of field or something. But his pretty eyes are in very sharp focus.
After a bit more searching I think that shirtless pics are not the good doctor's strong point. :(
But his fan site karlurbanonline has other good pics. Even a few ST "screencaps"
