POLL: Favorite movie from Alien franchise

Favorite movie from Alien franchise

Oh it is definitely nasty, not a pleasant scene at all, but within the confines of an appalling film it stands out as perhaps the only smidgen of originality, and the only attempt made to say something about the nature of birth/the Aliens’ lifecycle etc.

And what does it say? That they'll do their thing to a pregnant woman too? It doesn't particularly make sense either. As I understand, the facehugger sends the alien embryo down to the stomach where it feeds off the food in there and grows. The stomach is not connected to the womb.

You're being too literal, it's a commmentary/contrast simply on birth and reproduction, same as the duality between Ripley and the Queen in Aliens, they're both mothers, though their motherhood is manifested in vastly different ways.

The most distinctive thing about the alien has always been its reproductive cycle, even in Alien Ash refers to the creature as Kane's son.

I feel bad for Alien Resurrection. Sure, it's not a great film, but I find it much more pleasant to watch than the completely bleak depression of Alien 3. Plus, the cast is excellent and the kitchen sequence is one of the best in the franchise.

Its a close run between Alien and Aliens for me. Alien is by far the better horror film and exceedingly well crafted, but if i'm just looking for something enjoyable to watch i'd probably have to go for Aliens.

Alien 3 has the core of a good film, but there's just too many inconsistencies. I'm less bothered by the killing of Newt and Hicks then i am by the fact the way it was done didn't make any sense.

Alien Resurrection has always felt like a last ditch attempt to cash in on the franchise before giving up. There never seemed to be any real creative desire there.

I voted for Aliens, but Alien is a very, very close second.

So in order:

1. Aliens
2. Alien
3. Alien 3
4. AVP
5. Alien Resurrection
6. AVP Rectum... er Requiem

The original Alien is the best movie in the series, IMO.

Aliens is a better blockbuster, but Alien is a more mature, and more subtle film. It's just so much more terrifying than any of the sequels.

Alien 3 is OK in it's directors cut form.

Alien Resurrection is mostly garbage, as much as I love Joss Whedon, Jeunet effed up his script.

Indeed. Jeunet's sense of visual style (and offbeat casting choices) really elevate the material.

Having read the script (in several forms), um... Not really. It was always going to be a fanboy compilation...

Well considering he had to incorporate the ridiculous idea of a cloned Ripley, Whedon probably realized there was no point in trying to create a serious work of art.

That being said, I do think a really cool Alien movie could have been made with the same basic story, if it had just been shot right. Unfortunately the direction was so fast-paced and overly-stylized that it made it impossible to take anything seriously. And the director didn't seem capable of creating even an ounce of suspense, which didn't help.

You could have handed the same director the script to Alien or Aliens, and it would have been just as bad.

I just rewatched Resurrection. Completely forgettable.

It had an neat idea with clone Ripley, but they never really do ANYTHING interesting with it. The alien hybrid at the end is still terrible. It just looks so STUPID.:rommie:

I was hoping for at least an awesome fight between clone Ripley and the Alien Queen, but nope. The Queen gets killed in seconds by her dumb looking baby.

We're talking about a film where Weyland Yutani was bought by Walmart, and a guy gets skullfucked with a chestburster. Why is seriousness even entering this equation?

It's cool to see that the first two movies always seem to be tied in the poll for favorite Alien film.

I wonder how good Prometheus will be compared to the first four Alien movies? I guess we will find out in a couple of days.

Better than Alien 3 and Resurrection, not as good as Alien or Aliens. But thats just my opinion.

Alien followed by Aliens. I cared about the characters the most in Alien then Aliens. Couldn't care less about any of them in the 3rd and 4th except for Clemons in 3.

I'm finally seeing Alien 3 Director's Cut for the first time. I'm halfway through it... and it's still boring :p Did she have sex with the doctor in the original version? I didn't remember that.
