Right now we have a little "engine rumble" kind of thing on the ship exteriors. I like that.

While Vektor was building the Polaris mesh he rendered an image of it against a NASA photo which we've used for quite a while as the cover photo on the Polaris Facebook page.

I've re-rendered it as closely as I could using the completely rigged, textured and lit version of the model, and this is our current cover photo.

We're calling those "drive spheres." They are components of the FTL drive system. Exactly how they work is open to interpretation but a form of space-time compression and expansion is involved.

If we really wanted to go retro, half the elements would be painted and half would be hand-colored black-and-white photo cut-outs.
