Pocket's '08 -'09 schedule - LOTS of new covers!

The biggest surprise for me is the cover for Errand of Fury. We saw sort of a mock up before that looked very similar and I was convinced that cover wasn't going to look anything like the final cover.

I love the compromise! One of the family estates of the Organian actor couldn't/wouldn't grant likeness permission - so the artist just glow-blobbed him out, just like in the episode. Very clever.

Okay then, what was your reason in throwing tradition out of the window... and randomly deciding to not have a ship with the name of the class in that class?

It's highly possible that sometimes the ship with the same name as its class is the prototype, which fails to met specifications and gets mothballed. Maybe its like how NASA's shuttlecraft Enterprise, the one we used to see being piggybacked around on a 747 long before a suttle went up for a space mission, was only used to test landing cababilities, etc.?

The ST novels are always allowed to deviate from the postulations of other book authors. It's canon they can't ignore - but interpreting from indefinite canonical data doesn't throw anything "out the window".

If you're referring to the fact I mentioned about the USS Galaxy. It's true. At least two members of PB staff were oblivious to the fact that there were at least two instances of the Galaxy being seen on-screen.

To be fair that's why they now have things like Wikipedia and Memory Alpha at their disposal.

When was the final title for Open Secrets chosen? I'm wondering, because back in April, I wrote
Possible Rush-themed titles for Vanguard 4...

"Open Secrets" seems like it would be very appropriate to the themes of the series.

'A Farewell to Kings'... I could almost have seen that as an alternate title to 'Reap the Whirlwind'... Definitely sounds like a usable title for something in the future, if not this book.

Looking through Rush songs... there's tons of titles that would make great book titles. I think Open Secrets is my favourite for a Vanguard book, though. (I'd love to see a 'Main Monkey Business' Star Trek story sometime...)
A couple days later, Dayton wrote...

I'm happy to report that there may -- as of today -- be a final title to V4. To answer the expected questions:

1) No, I'm not permitted at this time to share it with you. (They call me "Tease.")
2) No, it doesn't follow the "____ the ____" pattern, though Fuck the Klingons! was a working title for quite some time. (Still my favorite, actually).
3. Yes, it appears it will take its cue from a Rush song title, though we did not originally set out to do that. Fecal matter occurs. (KRAD FTW.)
4) No, it's not any of the ones yet put forth in this thread. (Sorry.)
I feel super geekily happy that I guessed it on the first try. My best friend (who's a huge Rush freak, though not into Star Trek... yet...) and I listened to Open Secrets the day I read the announcement. I've been trying to get Finbar (my friend) to read Vanguard for a while... He's been interested, but hasn't made the actual jump yet. He tells me that he'll definitely read the series now, (though if Finbar always did what he said, there wouldn't be dirty dishes in my sink right now. ;))

When was the final title for Open Secrets chosen?

When I originally wrote back in April that we had a possibly final title for V4, at the time, the one I'd proposed was Peaceable Kingdoms (a play on "Peaceable Kingdom"). That actually was the title for a few weeks, until Marco came to us in early May with a list of alternative titles that he'd put together after perusing the Rush song list (He'd long since given up on the notion that we'd be interested in a title which didn't have roots in the band's catalogue :D).

Anyway, of the ones he suggested, "Open Secrets" was the one we liked best, so that's the way it went. If he was inspired by conversation here, that's cool with me.

My list of future purchases.

Star Trek: The Original Series - ERRAND OF FURY: SACRIFICES OF WAR
Star Trek: The Original Series - MERE ANARCHY
Star Trek: Vanguard - OPEN SECRETS
Star Trek: The Original Series - IMPROBABLE MINDS
Star Trek: Vanguard - TBA
Star Trek: The Original Series - THE MILLENNIUM BLOOM
Star Trek: The Original Series - THE UNSPOKEN TRUTH

Not too bad.

Thinking of Mere Anarchy again...

Seems like half the text of "The Second Coming" (poem) has found itself into various episode and/or book titles over the years.

(Understandable, since it's an awesome read!)

Nah, you're all wrong.

It'll be The Romulan War: Year Two - we'll have five TPB, one for each year of the war :p

What they haven't told us is that they've actually planned two TPBs for the Romulan war:

The Romulan War: 2156-2158
The Romulan War: 2159-2161

And then KRAD writes the last of the TPBs to finish off the "Founding of the Federation" trilogy with:

Federation: Year One

;)
