Pocket's '08 -'09 schedule - LOTS of new covers!

In fact, there's absolutely no on-screen evidence to support the notion that that's a universal practice, and one big piece of evidence that they don't always: the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, which was the first of the Galaxy-class ships, with the second being the Yamato.

I'm sorry? Everything I've ever seen said the Galaxy was built first, then Enterprise, then Yamato. And we've seen the Galaxy on-screen a couple of times. I've never seen any suggestion that there wasn't a U.S.S. Galaxy.

Also: This isn't supposed to be a very large ship, is it? (I'm guessing that Ezri's actual *rank* isn't yet Captain, only her position. )
Dave described it as a pretty kick-ass sort of starship, actually. (Though it now occurs to me that "kick-ass" says absolutely nothing about the ship's size.)

Also, Ezri is a Captain by rank. Dave described on the "Future of TNG" panel the circumstances under which Ezri gets promoted, but that would be, to quote River Song, "Spoilers." :)

Her crew includes some characters from the post-finale DS9 fiction, Presumably chosen because she had a working relationship with them prior.

Hmm... which suggests that her promotion is part of something larger... and that we may find out in Greater Than The Sum, if not in Destiny, perhaps.

Come on Bowers as exec... or at least as Security Chief :D

That was a conjecture in the Encyclopedia, but it was just that -- conjecture. All the onscreen evidence says that the Enterprise was first, and I don't recall ever seeing a U.S.S. Galaxy.

So, A Singular Destiny will feature Ezri's ship? I was hoping it'd be a follow-up to Articles Of The Federation, focusing on Bacco's government more.

All indications have been that Bacco and her usual gang of suspects will be included in ASD, just not as the main characters.

It will include both -- the novel isn't going to focus on Bacco's government, but it will play a role. It won't focus on the Aventine, either, but it will also play a role.

There's a lot going on, don't worry. :)

Yeah I'm kind of disappointed that we are only getting one Enterprise book next year to cover something as vast as the Romulan War.

Nobody said it covers the entire war...

Maybe I've not been keeping up with my astrology, but aren't all Luna-class ships supposed to be named after Sol-system moons? I've never heard of a moon called Aventine.

Well, that would be astronomy, not astrology. And there is no moon named Aventine, but there is an asteroid called 26356 Aventini. And 4 Vesta is one of the largest asteroids. But of course that's a coincidence; since the ships are named for the seven hills of Rome, no doubt the Vesta in question is the Roman goddess of the hearth. I'm not clear on what she had to do with the hills, though, or why her name is applicable to this starship class.

Myriad Universes 3 - I'll likely get this regardless of the quality of the first two, since the story lines aren't likely to intersect with anything prior.

Indeed. As Marco said in the MyrU panel, the idea is for each short novel to depict a different one of the myriad possible alternate timelines. So it's unlikely that any MyrU installment will get a sequel. (But you never know...)

No Ezri in GTTS.

Fair enough... :)

Rhea Silvia, the mother of Romulus and Remus, was a priestess of Vesta, and her temple was located near the Palatine Hill, where the twins lived and where the city was first founded. A bit loose, but I assume that's the intended connection.

Does the idea that all of the names of ships from one class share a theme something you guys came up with or does it come from the shows? Either way, I think it's a really cool idea and I hope you guys stick with it.

Just to be clear, that wasn't my post you quoted.

I thought it went U.S.S Galaxy, *then* the U.S.S Yamato, and *then* the U.S.S Enterprise-D.

I don't think it comes from the shows, just look at the names Enterprise, Yamato, and Odyssey. but if they name the NX-03 Challenger, then I say someone is trying to go for a theme. :)

Probably from the Danube-class runabouts.

So it would seem that there was a Galaxy-class USS Galaxy that was in service as late as 2379, and it would make sense that it was the prototype to the Galaxy-class, but I'm guessing that MA is offering (understandable) conjecture that it was the prototype.

It's also probably a carry-over from recent and modern naval practices of often naming all the ships of a specific class along the same thematic line.

For instance, the US Coast Guard Hamilton-class cutters are all named after former US Secretaries of the Treasury department:
