Pocket's '08 -'09 schedule - LOTS of new covers!

Didn't an early blurb say she commanded the Aventine?

The Memory Alpha entry for Lost Souls mentions the Aventine, and since for the Enterprise and Titan we know who their commanding officers are, logic suggests that yes, Ezri Dax is the commanding officer of the U.S.S Aventine
Maybe I've not been keeping up with my astrology, but aren't all Luna-class ships supposed to be named after Sol-system moons? I've never heard of a moon called Aventine. Sounds like the girl out of that Scouse family in Bread. And all twelve have already been named in the Titan blurb, haven't they? I is confuzzled.
The original question was whether or not Ezri would be commanding a Luna-class vessel. If she is commanding a ship called the Aventine, and that is not a moon in the Sol system, then it's probably a safe bet her ship is not of that class.

SEPTEMBER 2008

Star Trek: Enterprise - KOBAYASHI MARU
by Andy Mangels and Michael A. Martin

I think I will actually pass on this one for now. The author's last two entries in the Enterprise series were less than encouraging IMO, so I'm not to exited about this one.

Star Trek 101
by Terry J. Erdmann and Paula M. Block

Another pass. I'm not a fan of non-fiction stuff, so this could be a book I actually will never get unless it's on a very low discount.

OCTOBER 2008

Star Trek: Corps of Engineers - WOUNDS
by various authors

It has a novella by Terri Osborne, so I will definitely get this.

Star Trek: Destiny - BOOK ONE: GODS OF NIGHT
by David Mack

I would have bought that one anyway since I like Mack's writing, but since this trilogy seems to be the hook up for much of the other coming books I guess it is a must buy.

NOVEMBER 2008

Star Trek: Destiny - BOOK TWO: MERE MORTALS
by David Mack

See Book One.

Star Trek: Academy - COLLISION COURSE
by William Shatner, with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens

I'll get that eventually I guess, but it's not a top priority.

DECEMBER 2008

Star Trek: Destiny - BOOK THREE: LOST SOULS
by David Mack

See Book one.

JANUARY 2009

Star Trek: The Original Series - ERRAND OF FURY: SACRIFICES OF WAR
by Kevin Ryan

Will buy that together with Book two, so I can read both back to back.

Star Trek: Mirror Universe - SHARDS AND SHADOWS
by various authors

Has stories by some of my favorite authors, so I'll try to get hold of it close to the release date.

FEBRUARY 2009

Star Trek: A Singular Destiny
by Keith R.A. DeCandido

A definitive buy.

MARCH 2009

Star Trek: Titan - OVER A TORRENT SEA
by Christopher L. Bennett

I'm glad to see CLB taking over again after the sub-average entry by Thorne. Another definitive buy.

Star Trek: The Original Series - MERE ANARCHY
by various authors

Margaret Wander Bonanno is a contributor. 'nough said.

APRIL 2009

Star Trek: Voyager - FULL CIRCLE
by Kirsten Beyer

Pass. Never was a fan of the Voyager Relaunch by Golden, and I like Beyer's writing even less.

Star Trek: New Frontier - TREASON
by Peter David

I'll get it in the hope that Peter David will be able to stop the slow downward trend of the last few entries in the series.

MAY 2009

Star Trek: Vanguard - OPEN SECRETS
by Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore

Another buy.

Star Trek: The Original Series - CRUCIBLE
by David R. George III

I'll pass on this one. Why should I pay twice for the same thing, even if there is "additional material". My opinion on this is when it wasn't included from the start there's a good reason for that. And if it was planned from the start to be part of the story and was just hold back to use it for an omnibus, I certainly won't encourage such tactics by paying twice.

JUNE 2009

Star Trek: The Original Series - IMPROBABLE MINDS
by Dave Galanter

Not sure about that one yet. I guess I'll get it eventually, but it's not top priority.

JULY 2009

Star Trek: The Next Generation - LOSING THE PEACE
by William Leisner

I'll get it, but I'll wait until I've read Leisner's novel in Myriad Universes until I decide how big of a priority it will become.

AUGUST 2009

Star Trek: Seven Deadly Sins
by various authors

I have to admit I'm not really sure what to think about this one.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - THE SOUL KEY
by Olivia Woods

Since it's part of the Relaunch I'll get it, but can't say right now how exited I'll gonna be about it until I have read Woods debut novel.

SEPTEMBER 2009

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - THE NEVER ENDING SACRIFICE
by Una McCormack

Una McCormack + Cardassians = MUST BUY.

OCTOBER 2009

Star Trek: Enterprise - THE ROMULAN WAR
by Michael A. Martin

I'll pass on this one for the time being. Reasoning see Kobayashi Maru.

Star Trek: Voyager - TBA
by Kirsten Beyer

Pass. See Full Circle.

NOVEMBER 2009

Star Trek: Titan - TBA
by James Swallow

I'll have to read something in novel length by Swallow before I can say how much of a priority this will become, but I'll get it eventually.

Star Trek: Myriad Universes - TBA
by various authors

I'll postpone my judgment until I know the authors and have read the first two books.

DECEMBER 2009

Star Trek: Vanguard - TBA
by David Mack

A Buy.

Star Trek: Corps of Engineers - OUT OF THE COCOON
by various authors

Definitive Buy. The S.C.E./CoE TPBs haven't really disappointed me yet.

COMING IN 2010

Star Trek: The Original Series - THE MILLENNIUM BLOOM
by Mike W. Barr

A buy, but not top priority

Star Trek: The Original Series - THE UNSPOKEN TRUTH
by Margaret Wander Bonanno

Must Buy.

Not a fan of the trend towards TPBs, I must say. They're more difficult to hold, rarely actually contain more content, and used bookstores often don't accept them.
so don't get rid of them

Usually I don't, but occasionally my backlog gets big enough that I forget what's in it, and I end up buying the same book twice. When this happens with a TPB----and I then proceed to lose the receipt----there's little recourse.

What a negative way to look at it. You make your opinion early enough. (Says me with a footer such as I have, hehe.)

When Rosalind and I met David George in Australia last year, we joked with him that an omnibus of the trilogy would probably be impossible due to the page count. There were no plans for a hardcover reprint, and David admitted he had no new Star Trek projects on his plate at all.

Quite likely, after writing the trilogy, and receiving all the feedback, a few new ideas rose to the surface? Perhaps Marco invited him to write some new pieces when it was decided to do a hardcover, which are usually aimed at a different demographic anyway.

Ah, well then part one of my comment comes to fruition: If it wasn't part of the initial plan anyway, in my experience it doesn't really fit if added retroactively. But hey, if other people enjoy it, that's great, but I still don't buy the same story twice because of some additional scenes.

P.S.: Is it a sign that I've been here too long that I knew in advance that you would comment on this part of my post? :guffaw:

Perhaps David George himself will stop by and comment about the Crucible hardcover.. I'm sure he's reading this post at some point.

Ooo, ooo! If VAN's fourth book is "Open Secrets," does that mean that book five is "Closed Minds?"...
.

.
.
...What? You can't blame a guy for trying.
Hey, I just relaized something. It's a Vanguard title that isn't related to the weather. I wonder if the next few will use the same kind of theme like the first three, or if they'll be completely unrelated now.

Wow... Do I see some semblance of balance to the series and the schedule now? Nice.

Kobayashi Maru - For reasons mostly unknown to myself I'm quite excited about this one.

Destiny Trilogy - Of course this is a must buy. It could be headlined as "Star Trek: this is the worst book ever" by David Mack and I'd get it because David Mack is writing it.

Mirror Universe: Shards and Shadows - I'm a big fan of the MU so I'll be getting this for sure.

Singular Destiny - Also a must buy. It's a follow up to Destiny so that's good. Then add to it that KRAD is writing it bonus. Then think back to the dynamic that the last three A Time To books had with the Mack/KRAD double whammy and we have instant win.

Titan: Over a Torrent Sea - A Bennett novel? Nice! After Orion's Hounds and the short story in Distant Shores he's rapidly moving up my favorite author list.

Voyager: Full Circle - As one of the very few (here) who actually liked the Voyager Relaunch to date I'll certainly be getting this. My one trepidation is the fact that it covers so many years. While I've read books that do this nicely, I've read just as many that cover too much time and they feel rushed and like important (or at least interesting) events were skipped over.

Vanguard: Open Secrets - VANGUARD!!!!! Hell yes! This is my favorite series.

TNG: Losing the Peace - No idea if I'll get this or not. On the one hand it is a Destiny follow up (good) but on the other I've not been all that thrilled with the TNG Post Nemesis stuff. I suppose this will depend on how I feel about Greater than the Sum (another Bennett novel so should be good) and what Destiny does to TNG etc.

Seven Deadly Sins - Now this sounds interesting, I hope the stories relation to their sin is more than simply by stereo type of the enemy and the sin itself plays some sort of part in the story.

The Soul Key and Never Ending Sacrifice - Two DS9 relaunch novels in a row? Nice and not. Nice because I love the series and get no wait between them. But not because I've always been an advocate of a very balanced schedule for the series and it'd be hippocritical of me to say I want all my series in rapid succession and not the ones I don't read too. But anyway, yeah I'll be getting both of these regardless of the quality of new-comer Olivia Woods's Fearful Symmetry.

Romulan War - Like Kobayashi Maru inexplicably I'm eagerly awaiting this.

Voyager 6 - Oooh.. Kirsten Beyer again? Cool. Two books isn't necessairily a trend, but it does make one wonder has Kirsten Beyer become the sole author of VOY-R books now? Or is this now a multi-author series and she just happens to be the one hired to write the next two?

Titan 6 - I like Titan well enough I'll get it and after James Swallow's Day of the Vipers (which was great) I'll definitely get it.

Myriad Universes 3 - I'll likely get this regardless of the quality of the first two, since the story lines aren't likely to intersect with anything prior.

Vanguard 5 - Vanguard + Mack --- need I say more?

So the New Frontier will be a larger paperback like the Mirror Universe books, rather than a hard back?

Hey, I just relaized something. It's a Vanguard title that isn't related to the weather. I wonder if the next few will use the same kind of theme like the first three, or if they'll be completely unrelated now.

since when's a Harbinger been weather-related?

Sounds like the girl out of that Scouse family in Bread. And all twelve have already been named in the Titan blurb, haven't they? I is confuzzled.

The earlier comment I had made about Ezri commanding a Luna-class starship was based off of things mentioned in Warpath. It had also been posted before seeing the back cover blurb for Lost Souls.

All of the first twelve Luna-class starships have been named, and all of them are moons in the Sol System, yes.

Looking forward to getting Enterprise Kobayashi Maru and The Romulan wars. Also the Destiny & Ds9 books and the novel Mu Shards & Shadows.Myriad Universes 3. Also the new Tos novel Improbable Minds and Kevin Ryan's novel as well.:) Definitely the Saavik Novel by Margaret Wander Bonnano.

The original question was whether or not Ezri would be commanding a Luna-class vessel. If she is commanding a ship called the Aventine, and that is not a moon in the Sol system, then it's probably a safe bet her ship is not of that class.
That would be a sensible conclusion to come to, yes. Damn you and your common sense. :borg:

Vixen;1834609 The earlier comment I had made about Ezri commanding a [I said:
Luna[/I]-class starship was based off of things mentioned in Warpath.
Yeah, It was more along the lines of "Ooh, wouldn't it be nice to get one of those new Luna-class ships?" than "I am getting one of those new Luna-classships and that is incontrovertibly established and no-one can say or do anything about it so there."

AUGUST 2009

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - THE SOUL KEY
by Olivia Woods

Since it's part of the Relaunch I'll get it, but can't say right now how exited I'll gonna be about it until I have read Woods debut novel.

SEPTEMBER 2009

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - THE NEVER ENDING SACRIFICE
by Una McCormack

Una McCormack + Cardassians = MUST BUY.

Again, I say this as one who has not yet read Fearful Symmetry (you have no idea how badly mangled that came out on first attempt at typing).

If Fearful Symmetry covers the Illiana-backstory aspect, and The Soul Key covers the using-the-Orb-fragment-in-her-dastardly-plan aspect (judging by the title), then it sounds like (also judging from the title) The Never-Ending Sacrifice involves the fallout from those events on Cardassia and its representatives (Garak, Macet, Ekosha, Ghemor, perhaps even Yevir). It might even lead up to "The Calling," as I've been speculating long since.

To which I say, "Yay!"

Star Trek: Enterprise - KOBAYASHI MARU
by Andy Mangels and Michael A. Martin

Absolutely.

Star Trek 101
by Terry J. Erdmann and Paula M. Block

Probably not.

Star Trek: Corps of Engineers - WOUNDS
by various authors

Yuppers.

Star Trek: Destiny - BOOK ONE: GODS OF NIGHT
by David Mack

Star Trek: Destiny - BOOK TWO: MERE MORTALS
by David Mack

Star Trek: Destiny - BOOK THREE: LOST SOULS
by David Mack

A no-brainer. No way would I miss this.

Star Trek: The Original Series - ERRAND OF FURY: SACRIFICES OF WAR
by Kevin Ryan

I will get it to finsh the story, but will have to re-read the last two, as I can't really remember the details. Not a good sign.

Star Trek: Mirror Universe - SHARDS AND SHADOWS
by various authors

Just as some are getting tired of the Borg, I've just about reached my threshold for the MU, so this will be a wait-and-see thing for me.

Star Trek: A Singular Destiny
by Keith R.A. DeCandido

Like Destiny proper, this is a no-brainer.

Star Trek: Titan - OVER A TORRENT SEA
by Christopher L. Bennett

Hell, yes.

Star Trek: The Original Series - MERE ANARCHY
by various authors

I'm thinking that this is a must-buy as well.

Star Trek: Voyager - FULL CIRCLE
by Kirsten Beyer

Probably.

Star Trek: New Frontier - TREASON
by Peter David

Absolutely.

Star Trek: Vanguard - OPEN SECRETS
by Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore

Hell, yes.

Star Trek: The Original Series - CRUCIBLE
by David R. George III

I have the originals, so I'll pass. (Yes, Therin, I know about the original content.;))

Star Trek: The Original Series - IMPROBABLE MINDS
by Dave Galanter

Not sure yet. will need more details.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - LOSING THE PEACE
by William Leisner

Probably. The post-NEM TNG books have yet to really "wow" me yet, but my attachment to the characters and desire to know what happens to them next will probably convince me to take the plunge.

Star Trek: Seven Deadly Sins
by various authors

Interesting idea, but I am taking a "wait and see" approach to this one.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - THE SOUL KEY
by Olivia Woods

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - THE NEVER ENDING SACRIFICE
by Una McCormack

Like Destiny, any DS9-R is a no-brainer-must-read, despite the MU elements.

Star Trek: Enterprise - THE ROMULAN WAR
by Michael A. Martin

Just like the Clone Wars were a part of Star Wars history that I was anxious to experience, the Romulan wars are a part of Trek history that I must know the details of. While I'm sad to see the sundering (pun intended) of the Martin/Mangels team, I'm hoping that Andy's absence is due to him having too much other work to fit it ito his schedule.

Star Trek: Voyager - TBA
by Kirsten Beyer

If I buy and like Full Circle (which is currently a "probably" for me), then yeah, probably.

Star Trek: Titan - TBA

by James Swallow

I enjoyed Mr. Swallow's work on Terok Nor, and I enjoy Titan, so yeah.

Star Trek: Myriad Universes - TBA
by various authors

We'll see.

Star Trek: Vanguard - TBA
by David Mack

Hell, yes.

Star Trek: Corps of Engineers - OUT OF THE COCOON
by various authors

Hell yes.

Star Trek: The Original Series - THE MILLENNIUM BLOOM
by Mike W. Barr

I wasn't too impressed with Gemini, so this will be another "wait and see" book. I'll probably decide after reading some reviews.

Star Trek: The Original Series - THE UNSPOKEN TRUTH
by Margaret Wander Bonanno

I'm thinking "yes". Although I'm always thrilled to see new Trek from Garamet, I would still like to read the Saavik novel that TerriO told us that she once pitched.
