Honestly, I'd rather they just leave season 1 behind. The only thing I'd like to see again is Riker and Troi.

Well if you don't like the show that's fine but I'm less interested in a new story than building on the world they've established.
He didn't say he doesn't like the show and surely those new stories are a way to build on the world that they've established?
"What happened to X?" or "How did Y deal with Z" is novel-fodder. I'd much rather they move on to a new story as opposed to tying everything from Season 1 up with neat little bows. Who needs to know what happens to a character after they were arrested? Presumably they go to prison, eat gruel for the rest of their life and that's the end of that?
It's not terribly interesting and not everything needs an explanation.
