"Romulans from the future, most likely TNG time frame lead by a Romulan named Nero, played by Eric Bana, finds the City on the Edge of Forever and uses the Guardian of Forever to go back in time and kill the person who has been the biggest thorn in the Romulan's side and is crucial to the success of the Federation and Starfleet, James T. Kirk (Chris Pine)."

Yet more evidence that this will be a backdoor remake.
If that isn't enough info to get a basic idea of what this movie will be about then I don't know what is.

The Guardian? I have a tough time believing that. I'll wait for positive confirmation from TrekMovie, or for December 2008.

And you need to learn to use spoiler code... it makes the substative parts of your post invisible unless intentionally highlighted by the reader.

Fine with me. We've all been wanting the Guardian to return. Well, here we go. Perhaps Spock will be trying to use the Guardian to fix the problem. If he is there when Nero goes back, then he would be protected from the changes.

Wasn't there an early plot idea for (Star Trek 4 I believe) where the Klingons would use the Guardian to affect earth's past? They decided to do whales instead.

Or I'm am imagining this? If so they are digging up 2 abondoned story ideas for TREK 11: the old star trek 4 idea mixed in with the old Star Trek 6 (Bennets Star fleet Academy idea)...albeit this wont be an Academy film per say..it seems they are using elements of 2 old premises that was considered for a movie plot at one point.

Interesting....

All right, this is as far as I go. If anyone catches me reading any more spoilers, slap me on the wrist.

steal one lousy cloaking device and you become the biggest thorn in the side ever?

If anyone is the one is gonna make Kirk fight for his life, it's gonna be Bana

Old Spock's final line upon emerging from the Guardian back in his own time: "Let's get the hell out of here."

My response

[/QUOTE]
I am a little confused... is this response inside out?

I've never used spoiler code before.

And instead of running the risk of somehow screwing it up and revealing it unintentionally I dececided to play it more safe and do it the old fassion way by adding spoiler space. But you guys are right I should learn. Sorry about that.

Isn't this essentially what Moriarty was saying back in August at AICN... just with the Guardian of Forever thrown in as the time travel device?

Reminds me somewhat of those rumors back in 1990 about a possible guest-starring role for Nimoy on TNG (before "Unification" came along):

The following from Richard Arnold): Leonard Nimoy was presented with an idea for a ST:TNG two-part episode which was given a working title of "Return to Forever". The "official" word is that midway through negotiations Nimoy's agent suddenly started asking for $1 million. Since, at the time, the budget for an average week's episode was $1.4 million (it's now $1.6 million), this was a clearly unreasonable demand. The script with Spock is still supposedly floating around somewhere. But the "official" word is that Leonard is simply more interested in working on movies (mainly directing) than he is in making guest appearances on TV. This was the news until late 1990. Nimoy told us himself in August 1991 that he would be in an episode or two of TNG during the November Sweeps, but it won't be "return to Forever" (Guardian of Forever script?) or "Broken Mirror" ("Mirror Mirror sequel?). It turned out to be "Unification I" and "Unification II".

And you'll remember.. the original concept for "Yesterday's Enterprise" concerned a Vulcan science team researching history through the Guardian of Forever. In that draft, the team accidentally caused the death of Surak and Sarek had to replace him in the past? That was similar in turn to "Yesteryear" where Spock has to go back to his childhood and prevent himself from dying by assuming the identity of his enigmatic distant cousin Selek... who was him all along.

I wonder if Abrams and Co., having been given access to the Star Trek archives at Paramount, pulled some old drafts and conjured up a movie?

It sounds like IESB.net just meshed together the AICN rumor and that made-up thread about the guardian from yesterday and passed it as their own.

And I still swear there was a Guardian of Forever movie idea with the Klingons...something about them assasanating some historic figure of Earth's Past. Can anyone help me with this? Or is it all in my head lol

yeah I'm stupid and you cant quote inside a spoiler
I meant no disrespect at all, and I am so sorry if it came off like that. I reread the post, and understand it completely now. Sorry 'bout that.

Guardian of Forever? Cool!
I always imagined that the Guardian of Forever would be the most simple argument to time travel.
It s easy to explain the no trekkers. It is misterious, nobody know what it is, who built it, what its porpuse...

Imagine, a Guardian of Forever in CG.

Nothing machine building or sobrenatural and impossible phenomenons (Nexus, wormhole, travel around the sun etc.)

Well, it's looking more and more like the AICN stuff is true, for what that's worth. It's not crazy specific as far as how it's all going to work.

I guess though, I don't really want it to be specific at this point.
