Plinkett gets REVENGE

Either way, fanedits are one of the reasons why The Mirrorball Man's contention that fan canon does not exist is objectively and demonstrably false. :p
As I said, "denial". :p
Yep, that seems to be your mindset. ;) In The Seven-Per-Cent-Solution, for instance, Nicholas Meyer explicitly decanonized at least six of Conan Doyle's Holmes stories. Are you going to say that his book "doesn't exist", either? Because it's right there on my shelf. :p

I'm not saying it does not exist, I'm saying it's not official or authoritative, and it's not. I can make New Coke in my kitchen and pretend it still exists, but that doesn't make it true.

O RLY?

There's no such thing as "fan canon" or "personal canon".
*sigh* I'm not saying it does not exist as a concept. Obviously, if there's a word for it, there is a concept. What I'm saying is that it's a contradiction in terms. By definition, a canon is something officially sanctioned, something genuine. It's not something that everyone can define for themselves. In fact, it's the exact opposite. "Personal canon" is like "a stationary moving object" or "a full empty glass". It's meaningless.

Which doesn't mean that you can't enjoy fan fiction or dream up you own stories, of course. But they are not official and barring a coincidence, they will never be (and why should they, really?).

"Personal canon" is like "a stationary moving object" or "a full empty glass". It's meaningless.
Consider an arrow exactly three seconds after it's been shot from a bow. It's moving, and it exists. Because it exists, it occupies a specific place. Because it occupies a specific place, it's stationary.

And yet, it moves.

Consider an empty glass with no water in it. No hydrogen particles at all.

This glass is full of air.

I can only show you the door, The Mirrorball Man... it is you who must decide whether or not to free your own mind.

You may say I'm a dreamer... but I'm not the only one. ;)

It is only stationary to an observer who occupies a coordinate system that is moving at the exact same speed and with the exact same trajectory as the arrow itself.

So it is stationary ... from a certain point of view? ;)

But it can't be stationary AND moving at the same time from the SAME point of view. :p

when watching ROTS for the first (and only) time...

Geez, consider yourself lucky!

I was roped into seeing(and paying for it)twice! Already had tickets for a later screening before a friend convinced me to go opening night, as well.

After the first screening I GROANED at the thought of the later screening, a week later with my dad. First time in my life I HATED going to a SW film for a second(and NO MORE!)showing! THAT is the true power of what Lucas did with the PT - what he can do to a former ardent fan and admirer of his work.

You got off lightly, sir!

On the other hand, it did give us an excellent Rifftrax.

I went to see Phantom Menace 6 times in the first 48 hours because when I pre-bought the tickets I just assumed I'd want to watch it over and over again so I bought tickets to see it with every friend or group of friends going to see it that first weekend. I was mortified after that first viewing knowing I had 5 more to go... By the 3rd I was falling asleep in the "exciting" pod race.

Well I don't want to come across as if I hated the entire prequel trilogy. I was old enough to see all three of the OT when they came out (and still young enough to be getting the toys and have the Star Wars Universe consume my imagination - and my choice of Halloween costumes). I was a little disappointed, even as a kid, at ROTJ. I think that was in part because I had three years to imagine other scenarios and in part because it just isn't as good as the original two.

So I was still excited when they did the re-release in the 90s of the OT. Thought TPM had some great elements but was disappointed by it. Actually enjoyed a lot of AOTC and saw that a few times in the theater. ROTS, though, boy I just sat there and cringed throughout the entire film.

Still, out of some kind of obligation, I bought the PT on DVD and sat through the first two and discovered I really didn't enjoy rewatching either. Never watched ROTS again and sold the set. I still have the OT on DVD somewhere - the set with the untouched and non-anamorphic versions. Watched IV and V one time, enjoyed them but never had the desire to see them again. And that was 4 or 5 years ago now.

So I wouldn't blame ROTS for everything, but I did think it was horrible. There's probably some aspect of it that is just burnout. Maybe I'll have the desire to watch the OT a decade from now or maybe my curiosity will take over and I'll end up going to see at least V in 3D.

6 times... You didn't try to sell your ticket to someone else? I'm sure people would've paid for it. Was it simply that you felt obligated to go since you already had other friends going as a group?

Yeah, that was pretty much exactly the reason - I don't like backing out of obligations. Also, there were surprisingly few ticketless people those first couple days.

With theaters showing Star Wars on every screen they had PLUS only 10 minutes intervals between each showing, I guess there wouldn't have been many ticket-less folks.
