Please, God, Yes...

That always strikes me as funny, because Galaxy Quest was not about that non-existent TV series. Hell, they filmed every tiny bit of the supposed "series" that appears in the movie in one day.

I'd much prefer it be about the actors. Anyone can do a fan film about what's silly in stuff like Star Trek, and lots of folks - unfortunately - do

It's one of my favorite Star Trek movies; maybe the best. ;)

I mean seriously, what are the competing nominees? :D

Other Star Trek movies.

As for the show, I also really liked the movie, and will watch the series, or at the very lest, the pilot and an episode or two before I make a judgement. Unless the show is good, then I'll follow the whole thing.

Seems to me that Paramount is sick of waiting for CBS to green light a Star Trek series, and since they don't have the TV rights for Star Trek, they will launch something that do have rights to.

I can see it working if it's done as a behind the scenes thing like 30 Rock. I would assume they will somehow get mixed up in Galactic politics and shenanigans again. It could be good if it's done right.

Still, like a lot of others, I love the movie and it will be hard to compete with that. We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out I guess.

My guess is it will be about the long awaited tent-pole relaunch film franchise and its hot-shot young director. The main conflict will revolve around a small (but very vocal) dissident splinter group within the fandom who insist he and the young cast he assembled are all wrong. It's not real Galaxy Quest.

So they begin a social media crusade hoping to show the studio the error of its ways, convincing it to drop the film series and fund their fan project instead.

Well, that's hardly believable. No one in real life would act even remotely like this. I can't believe you'd even suggest such a thing.

Might be a group that would do it as a one-off, but, no way would real fans keep up a campaign week to week ;)

I'd enjoy it either way (either as a Behind the scenes of the aging actors, as shown in the original movie, or as a comedy SciFi Series ala Red Dwarf or Quark)

I hope that in trying to remake what they did they don't forget that even thought the comedy is very important, the movie had a lot of heart and strong emotional themes.

I notice that a lot of sequels/cash ins seem to keep the highlights but lose that heart and then it seems like a hollow shell of the original. Just like Star Trek.

That's what I'd expect. The pilot and early episodes will set up the actors in the same situation as the movie, but their "tour of duty" faking it as space explorers will be extended for whatever number of weeks the show actually lasts.

They'll have to finesse and reset the chronology, of course. Galaxy Quest was supposedly an 80s TV show, rather than a 60s show, so that Nesmith and company wouldn't be geezing along the convention circuit like the Trek TOS folks. Now it'd have to have been running in the late 90s, at least.

It's great to see that some of the talent behind the camera from the original movie are back.

I wonder if any of the cast will also return. I wouldn't expect to see Rickman, Weaver or Rockwell sign up for a tv show but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Tim Allen or Tony Shalhoub will do so.

The coolest part about Galaxy Quest is that although they can do lots of 30-Rock style riffing about the trials of making a TV show but also can do shows that delve into Sci/Fi subjects.
Very excited about this - I do wonder what the chances are of getting even a few of the actors from the film to agree to star in the series?

And I hope Missi Pyle too, who was one of my favourite characters.

No love for Daryl Mitchell? Shouldn't even matter that he's in a wheelchair now, since he was the pilot.

Was nice to see him recently in NCIS: New Orleans (as a computer specialist, I think?), so yeah. Maybe give him a Pike-style chair as a nod :). And while I'd miss Weaver, Rickman and Rockwell, they could be successfully recast. My leftfield choice for DiMarco? Amanda Tapping. I'd love to see her back in sf setting, she can do comedy and kickass action, and if they're going for intertextual sf references, plenty to play with :)

Hey, just get Claudia Black and Ben Browder and let the in-jokes roam free.
