Please, God, Yes...

Just saw this. I think I would prefer another movie, but this will do just fine. Now if we could only get another Star Trek series, then I would be ecstatic

I'll reserve my excitement until I see something to get excited over. But a TV remake/version of a 16-year-old movie? Can't say it inspires a lot of enthusiasm in me.

Some would argue that you are.

I'm more intrigued by a Galaxy Quest series than another Star Trek series. There's already been five of them, ya know.

One thing I'm a little confused about: Is this going to actually be the show Galaxy Quest or be like the film where it's a show about the show Galaxy Quest--as in more 30 Rock/Mary Tyler Moore than Star Trek?

The latter I'm sure. The movie wasn't about a TV series, but a comedy about some actors in one.

I will keep an open mind. I do believe that lightening strikes twice, and Galaxy Quest was of such Genius that some did not even realize...I shared some thoughts in another thread, but suffice to say, stay tuned, and

"By Grabthar's Hammer, by the Suns of Warvan, It Shall Be Written!".

...but it has to be picked up and broadcast by someone.

...plus, remember what JJ said about "Galaxy Quest"!

You're supposed to gush over it. It's in the geek bylaws somewhere.

Then you say "it's the best Star Trek movie!" as if that's somehow accurate.

I don't know about this. I loved the hell out of this movie, but that probably had a lot more to do with the cast than the concept, so I'll have to wait until I see more before I make a judgement. I do know that the various comic books they tried over the years did absolutely nothing for me.

I would probably prefer a film sequel, but that ship might have hit the turbo button too long as well.

I'm with EnsignRicky on this one. I love the film, it's by far one of my favourites, but I'm not sure how well a TV series would work, especially without the original cast. They're pretty much what sold it, and I'm not sure I can get behind a bunch of people doing Alan Rickman and Tim Allen impressions.

As usual, I'll see how it progresses and what it's like when/if it airs, but I'm not too optimistic at this point.

It's one of my favorite Star Trek movies; maybe the best. ;)

I mean seriously, what are the competing nominees? :D

Yeah, I mean the movie was a riot. Loved it! But it had a fantastic cast. This TV series idea? I dunno... Like I said, it's going to be a hard sell.

Indeed.

One of my favourite parts of the movie was how the rock monster was a riff on Shatner's original pitch for The Final Frontier, complete with the obligatory shirtless captain.

Meh...depends what they mean by that, if its the show that supposedly started after the movie I would be mildly interested. A goofy, affectionate spoof of ScFi/ST cliches might work.
If its a show about spoiled, aging Hollywood Actors on the convention circuit; no thank you.

Of course it might always be a combination of the two, in which case I'd be interested if they leave Earth early enough.
