Spoilers Please explain the baddie plan

Still, all of it is Actual Star Trek, regardless of whether or not I like it.
Indeed. There's a lot of Star Trek I don't like. It didn't some how stop being Trek because I don't like it. That pretty a pretty amazing super power if I could do that!

so what would happen if, in a not so distant future a major Chinese media cooperation decides to buy the Star Trek franchise and transforms it into one big CCP propaganda show? Technically it would still be „Star Trek“. The differentiation of „real Star Trek“ and „false Star Trek“ however would be a valid anchor point for discourse.

What i am saying is; don’t get mad if people got their very own definitions of real Star Trek. Within a discussion, this definition shouldn’t be the prerogative of the franchise’s license holders.

First of all, I'm not mad.

Second, people can say whatever they want, even when they are factually wrong.

And yes, it is absolutely the prerogative of the license holder to declare what is "Real Star Trek".

That's the only definition that matters, as they set Star Trek, not the fans. Fans can support it by watching it but there that's the beginning and end of the relationship.

It's a business, first and foremost. Now, if you want to talk about what Trek means to you and what you think Trek should mean I would welcome it. But statements like "actual Trek" or "real Trek" are nonstarters because that's simply a personal preference with an arbitrary distinction.

I think that is the very thing people do, when they use the term „Real Star Trek“ or „True Star Trek“ etc. It is just an acronym for one’s desire to explain, which values a Star Trek show should actually cherish…

They get to decide if it's REAL Star Trek.

We get to decide if it's GOOD Star Trek.

That's how fandom and intellectual properties are supposed to work. The audience doesn't get the monopoly of say.
Ooohhh...I like that. Well put.

Which we have no say over, again, and the simple fact is Star Trek is a business, not a religion, a philosophy or a charity. The business relationship determines it, not what it should "actually" be.

Thanks. It's the truth.

They can make anything they want and it's up to us to consume and even like it. That's how businesses work.

That's your opinion, and you're welcome to it. :techman:

No, it's incontrivertible fact. You can avoid watching any of those and spare yourself the misery of watching Trek you don't like but that doesn't change that LD and DSC and PRO are just as official and just as canon as TOS, TNG and DS9 and one's choice to not like them has absolutely no bearing on that.

No, it's an opinion. It's wrong, but opinions are such relative things. :techman:
