My sister and I donated £120 to the organisation in overall charge of the British charities providing aid to to SE Asia (www.dec.org.uk). Not sure how much that translates into $$. Should get more when the rest of the family chip in!

Amazon.ca sure made it easy for a Social Recluse like me to make a donation.

Yet, their total is only $18,250.37 when I last looked, with only 343 donars...

Hey, can we get J. Allen and his clergy friends to join the BBS? Sounds like our type of guys. :D :D :D

They're great people. Now keep in mind, these are totals from various churches that work with me and I with them. Good folks, bless their hearts.

And Enty, I'm glad you gave them a separate line, since personally I've donated $30. They deserve recognition, though they wouldn't ask for it.

And on another note, to everyone here, bless you all. For what it's worth, you are all in my prayers that these blessings are returned onto you 100 fold because you are giving from the heart.

Bless you.

-J.

Amazon.com has a different figure and may include worldwide totals.

Perhaps a lot of Canadians have donated using Amazon.com. :)

To J. Allen -- thank you for the wonderful comments! Blessings be upon you, too!

Just spreading the word to my Canuck compatriots in case they haven't heard yet... the federal government will match your donation to Canadian Red Cross, Oxfam, etc. until Jan 11. So your generosity will go twice as far! Link

I used Amazon.com myself to donate, since I was there for ordering something else. They too, have their front page dedicated to donating to the red cross, and they made it easier for me. It wasn't much, but I'm thinking there might be more need again in the future. Maybe the reason Amazon doesn't have a high figure, is that a lot of people might feel quilty going there to order something for themselves, and not alot were doing that. I feel guilty myself, but I hoped I helped in any way.

Oh, my heart is relieved!

This evening I was informed that the various churches that I am in contact with have sent a large plane load of food and water to India, and they have contacted several pharmaceutical companies there to begin finding ways to get medications to various survivors.

This is wonderful news, and I am very delighted to share it. God Bless these wonderful people!

OK, my mother and I each donated $20 into a bin in Costco today, and I slipped in an extra $5 when she wasn't looking. Sadly, although the bin was filling up, it looked as if that was mostly due to one dollar bills. It would have been nice to see more fives, tens, and twentys in there, but at least people are giving.

I just checked Doctors Without Borders and now they're saying that they have enough money for the earthquake/tsunami fund (I wonder how they arrived at that conclusion) and are urging people to donate to their other funds.

I've switched my sig to Oxfam, which is still accepting donations.

People talk about how various supplies have been donated like clothes and food, but what about simple lumber? I'm not sure of the availability of it in the affected areas? Is there a need for it?

It is a valid concern. Just as the tsunami swallowed up all those people it is now swallowing all aid money. Those doctors and other aid agancies were also giving in less dramatic situations and those people need help. Should the aid givers say I sorry we have TV pictures of the Asian people you are on your own now , bye :wtf:.

While some people who are giving now have never gave to anything before there are still other needs out there, AIDs in Africa for example, which also need attention. And if the regular donators focus all their money on Tsunami relief others will go without.

I fully expect that in a couple of weeks Churches will have to put out a special message that our tithes go to the local church because the local church still has to pay the bills. Just as other charities which focus on needs rather then tsunami survivors will also be forced to do.

A great start to the year! :)

One of you, who asked to remain anonymous, has also said that they will try to donate blood, as well. What a beautiful thought!

Happy new year to all! :)
