Playstation 3 games

Backward compatible PS3s are coming back, but they'll be higher priced than what's currently out there.

I have a backward compatible console, but have NEVER used it to play my PS2 games collecting dust. So unless you already have PS2 games but don't have a PS2, it's overrated.

Yeah, I still have my old PS2, so backwards compatibility doesn't make much of a difference to me. I don't really play any of my PS2 games these days anyway.

Hmm...there's a 160GB HDD PS3 bundled with Uncharted on Amazon for $479. If I add MGS4, I'd be paying $539, as opposed to $519 for the same two games and half the HD size (it's $399 for the 80GB HDD). But I seriously doubt I'd need 160GB of space...

ETA: Huh. MGS4 is actually $40 on Amazon (I thought it'd be $60), so the total for it and the bundle would be $519. That kind of makes it a no-brainer choice for me. :D

Space is also useful if you wanna download any PSN games.
I got a 60GB with my PS3 and have already replace it with a 320GB drive. I've got about 100GB used up at the moment.

I have a 40GB PS3 that I use pretty much exclusively for gaming, although I do have Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray. The games I currently own (with a star next to the ones I think are must-plays) are...

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune*
Killzone 2*
GTA4*
Conan
Siren: Blood Curse
Dead Space*
Motorstorm*
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift*
Resistance: Fall of Man*
Resistance 2*
Fallout 3*
Condemned 2

There's also some cool stuff available on the PSN store, like old PS1 titles, and full games like The Last Guy and Wipeout HD.

True enough.

By the way, sorry Captain Ice, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. :o

Definitely not a problem. Amd I don't think you're hijacking it at all by asking about the PS3.

I have to admit that I'm curious about how hard it is to swap the hard drives. Not that I'm planning on doing it soon.

^ It's a five minute job that a monkey could do. Actually swapping the hard drives that is. It's also really easy to move your data (games profile, save files, downloaded games,...) from the old drive to the new one. It does take a bit longer though, because you've got to copy all the files. You also need an external USB drive (with a FAT partition, NTFS is a no-go) or a USB trumbdrive (which is what I used).

Just placed my order earlier tonight, so I should have my PS3 by Wednesday (free two-day shipping; thank you, Amazon Prime! :D) I checked the prices at Best Buy before ordering, it's $499 for the Uncharted/160GB bundle (versus $479) and $49 for MGS4 (versus $39), so I'm saving an extra thirty dollars by going through Amazon. :techman:

I'm all excited now. Next I have to decide what's going to be my first Blu-ray.

^ There are a ton of seriously awesome Blu-rays out there, so tell us which movies you like and we'll help you out.

I got my PS3 just over a month ago, and I gotta say it IS the best Blu Ray player ive seen. I mainly got it for that reason, however, Killzone 2 which was bundled with it proved to be quite a decent game after the first few levels, and the multiplayer for it is good too.

However, Warhawk is a blast. I havent had this much fun in Multiplayer since Halo 2 back on the original Xbox. Its difficult but the fact your flying around in giant airships blowing anything and anyone up is just too much fun to pass up. I highly recommend it.

I also picked up Fallout 3 for it for £20 a couple of weeks ago, and soon became addicted to it, and completed it fairly quickly. Only to find out that A) The main quest ends and THATS IT. and B)The DLC which lets you play beyond the Main Quest ISNT COMING TO PS3 :@:@:@:@

As you can tell, that reallllly pissed me off when I heard it.

Aside from that gripe, I got to say my experience of the PS3 is overwhelmingly positive, aside from the annoying Internet Setup (Seriously, why cant you save profiles on it when you switch from wired to wireless??).

... and what games should I check out/avoid at all costs.

Also, just for curiosity, which machine do you have?

Game: Tomb Raider Underworld

Its the reason I bought my PS3 (I am a bit of a Tomb Raider freak) but of course it depends on what genre of game you like.

I have an 80GB version.
But as mentioned you can upgrade.

Ditto. The problem is that once you play PS3 games you don't want to go back to PS2.

That's because it is the best Blu Ray player, period. The best thing about it is that its firmware is constantly being updated so that it can handle all of the new features that keep coming out with BD (people complain about the regular updates but their stupid not to understand why it makes this system so superior). With the increasing popularity of BD, consumers are finally coming around to seeing why the PS3 kicks so much ass.

Currently playing MSG4 and GTA4.

I have the 40gb PS3 and have nine games for it that I've played and completed (and loved):

Assassin's Creed
Grand Theft Auto IV
Little Big Planet
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Quantum of Solace 007
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

...Uncharted 2 looks badass and I may get a PSP just to play Resistance: Retribution.

I like resistance 2....thats about the only game I have played on it I do like but it's a sound game.

we really just use ours for playing movies.

Not to spark a fanboy attack but the 360 is better for games, Battlestation's midway, now thats a game the ps3 is begging for.

Jebus, this thing runs much quieter than the 360. It's like a stealth console, all sleek and black and silent. :p
