Even with PS3 exclusive titles, only the best and most well-funded companies who expect to sell millions of copies of their games will be able to take full advantage of the PS3's capabilities. MGS4 and GT5 are probably the only two I can think of, and they've both got massive budgets (MGS is rumoured to have cost $100-120 million). And then again, GoW2 looks insane.
Personally, I think both Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank look better then GT5, which looks kinda empty and sterile to me, if that makes any sense.

I agree.

Both of those games look great.

Uncharted would be almost perfect if it wasn't for the occasional screen tearing.

While the PS3 has been slow out the gate, now that some A* games are appearing, I'm sure it'll eventually surpass it's similar rival the XBox 360. The hardware is superb - quiet loading, wireless out of the box, few moving parts (such as a disc tray) giving it potentially longer life. The only thing that sucks is the backwards compatability, or lack there of. Even the models with software emulation often don't play PS1 or PS2 games properly. Still, the slim PS2 model is cheap enough to solve that problem.

Uncharted looks really nice, but I think it would be easily to replicate on the 360. Same with Ratchet and Clank, which looks like it could be a budget CG movie but is actually pretty simply geometry-wise.

And it's hard to compare a colourful platformer with a racing game, isn't it? I mean, I understand that you like the look of one more than the other, but it's apples and oranges. GT5 is easily the best looking racing game ever made.

must admit i was a little dissapointed with my ps3. i bought a 40gb version as at the time i couldnt find any other types got told by the shop assitant it would be capable of playing ps2 games which it dont, bought an xploder cheat disc for the ps3 but the ps3 dosen't reconise it. still just glad i didnt dump the ps2

Yeah, it pays to do research before you spend that kind of money.

Oh I totally agree. I was just stating my personal preference when I mentioned R&C and Uncharted.

I tend to agree with this; the PS3 is following the same path the original XBox did. The original XBox was a pretty worthless machine for its first couple of years (the only thing worth having was Halo); then Halo 2 hit with online support, and the XBox exploded in popularity. It's only going to take one breakaway game to put the PS3 on the map; XBox is living proof of it.

An increasing library means increasing sales, but the only exclusive game on the horizon I can see really moving hardware is GT5. And by moving hardware I mean a large increase in monthly units for more than a month.

I think MGS4 has done well, especially with the bundle pack. I expect the 360 to pick up a bit of steam this summer with the small price cut.

The PS3 will most definitely outshine the 360 on a worldwide basis, but I still wouldn't bet money on the PS3 beating the shit out of the 360 in North America just yet. They may sell more hardware eventually, but it will take longer to sell more software the longer the 360s h:s ratio remains stronger. I think it might end up very much like the Genesis vs the SNES: the early debut of the Genesis allowing it to do well in North America, but poorly in Japan, and some place in the middle in Europe. The Genesis was practically dead by the time the SNES caught up to it in NA, and I wouldn't be surprised if the successor to the 360 has been announced by the time Sony sells more hardware than the MS.

Which is fine with me. I'll have all the major cross-platform titles and lots of good exclusives and by the time it runs out of steam the PS3 will be cheap and it's final gen games should be stellar.
