It seems strange to me that the PS3 doesn't already do it seeing as Sony are the big pushers of bluetooth and A2DP. They make mobile phones, speaker systems, Walkman devices, headphones with it and they even sell an adaptor accessory for the iPod.

The PS3 is probably more reliable than the 360 though SONY has never proved the games look better and of course the gameplay is virtually identical though I am very happy with LIVE.

The price is still absurd because SONY made a home entertainment system and I just wanted a console.

^Hmmmm, and I wanted a home entertainment system and Microsoft sold me a very loud, unreliable games console that doesn't play either HD disc format on its own. :)

Entirely off-topic, but did you ever own a Saturn? Because if you did, I would have finally met someone who had.

Hey! I owned a Saturn! Outstanding translation of the "X-men: Children of the Atom" and "Marvel Universe" fighting games; I even had the cartridge to allow one to play the "X-men vs. Street Fighter" that was a Japan only release. I wish the next gen consoles would get off the tails and release those again; it would be a perfect addition to X-Box Live.

Dragon Force was another good one for Saturn; it was awesome seeing 100s of characters fighting each other on the battlefield at one time.

Just tried MvC2 on a Dreamcast EMU. Perfect.
We'll never see those Marvel Capcom games ever again though, unless Capcom somehow gets the character licenses or do that cool Komani/Ubisoft thing that happened with Turtles Arcade.

This thread actually help me do more research before I buy a PS3. Thanx

I'd still reccomend a PS3 over a 360, which has a tendancy to piss itself and die on occasion.

To be honest new version of 360's seemed to have fixed most issues and the Elite, which my friend brought earlier this year seems to be very good at nor breaking down.

If getting a 360 I would say Elite.

The Jasper is the one that's supposed to fix all the problems though. A die shrink on the GPU which should at least keep the thing from blowing up if you play too long.

Just a heads up for anyone that cares, software update 2.40 will be released on Wednesday. Some of the updates include in-game XMB (messaging friends, changing certain preferences), Trophies (which will need to be implemented for every game), and playing your own music while gaming (again, I presume this will need to be implemented for every game).

I hope Sony can release some sort of API for their PS3 OS so third party can make custome softwares which would allow PS3 to recognize more containers like ogm, mkv, m4a, etc.

i'm still playing the sega genesis

I have a Saturn.

For the OP (sorry, I forget your name and can't be bothered going back to look :D ):

A lot of them comments seem to think that Sony will be rolling out full-software backwards compatibility. Take from that what you will.

I have a PS3 (I've had an Xbox 360 for quite a while now) and I have to say it's a very impressive piece of hardware. I mainly use it as a blu-ray player though; I still buy most of my games for the 360. I like the controllers better.

I do find it kind of funny though, that with all the time and money Sony spent developing the PS3 hardware, that it has turned out to perform basically exactly the same as the 360.

More precisely, it's marginal performance advantage seems to be cancelled out by a few different factors.

The 360 and Wii have sold well enough that there is a strong desire in North America to release games on multiple platforms. There is no incentive to invest time and extra money optimizing the game for the PS3, especially when you might have actually spent money cutting a game down for the Wii release. In fact, I'd go so far to say that the majority of 360/PS3 crossover titles look either identical or even marginally better on the 360. Even with PS3 exclusive titles, only the best and most well-funded companies who expect to sell millions of copies of their games will be able to take full advantage of the PS3's capabilities. MGS4 and GT5 are probably the only two I can think of, and they've both got massive budgets (MGS is rumoured to have cost $100-120 million). And then again, GoW2 looks insane.

The fact that the 360 is a very traditional platform to program for with highly developed middle-ware has a lot to do with how much they've been able to wring out of it. The next MS console will probably be on the near horizon before the PS3 begins to outshine it more regularly (if at all).

Personally, I think both Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank look better then GT5, which looks kinda empty and sterile to me, if that makes any sense.
