I've had my Xbox 360s die twice, my launch PS3's disc drive was DOA. Not impressed by either of the big two console manufacturers. My Xbox Ones and my PS4 haven't been super reliable, but that mostly seems to be software issues. It's hard to tell of course, maybe they have heat problems like the previous gen consoles as well. God knows they put off plenty of it.
You'd think if either of the two is going to have problems down the line, it would be the PS4... uses just as much power, is much smaller, and on top of that its power supply is internal. Is Microsoft's Xbox One design an overreaction to their heat problems last gen? Somehow the plastic case still manages to get white hot despite the design.
I've heard that the non-Kinect SKU for Xbox One has had some issues with loud clicky noises from the hard disk, enough complaints to put it 'under review' on Amazon. PS4's biggest issue as far as I know was the way the rubber on their thumbsticks would easily peel away. Apparently they've improved the formula enough to where it's not an issue with newer controllers.
