Playmates Toys

"These plastic toys designed for imaginative play need to be more accurate!"

*goes and plays with his WW2 plastic army men.*

I never said it needed to be screen accurate. I never had an issue with the all orange deflector on the first toy. And I don’t have an issue with the exposed screw holes. Like I said…I know it’s a toy. I just not a fan of the changes they made.

but go ahead…snark away.

One, I always snark away.

Two, I the comment I made was realizing that some toys will be accurate as the plastic army men I referred too were pretty accurate for WW2, including Nazi style uniforms.

And three...I'm sarcastic by default.

I saw a review of the First Contact Enterprise-E on YouTube and my God are the sound effects terrible. Apparently the annoying cricket noise when you press the first button is supposed to be the ship cloaking. Someone in the comments claimed that in an early draft of First Contact the Enterprise had a cloaking device and pulse phasers. Can anyone confirm that?

In the first draft script (which is easy to find online) the Enterprise does something like a broadside artillery barrage on the Borg cube with the phasers, so it's probably something like that. I don't recall the cloaking device though.

The first draft is wild. Picard and Riker's roles are reversed and the stuff on the Enterprise is basically completely ripped off Aliens, including the radar blips of Borg attacking the crew as they defend main engineering.

The saucer walk is pretty crazy too - IIRC Riker and Worf physically rotate a photon torpedo launcher to blow up the deflector.

At least that's what I recall from reading it 20 years ago!

In the days of TNG didn't they release a version of Beverly in a dress like she was dancing?

I had one of their TNG tricorders but despite being in a locked dark drawer the plastic became a horrible colour.

I always thought that noise is supposed to be that alert sound that you hear on the TNG bridge when they fire phasers.

For what it’s worth, I’ve never heard anything about the 1701-E having a cloaking device.

The only non-uniform Playmates Beverly I can recall is the Big Goodbye outfit. Unless you count the "Cadet Beverly Howard Crusher" one...which I don't and no one should. ;)
Rude.

Starfleet Academy figures were my favorite series of the TNG figures.

That would have looked cool

Eh?

I had the tricorder toy and I don't recall it changing color. It's in some storage box somewhere so I can't really vouch for its condition today.

Mine was in a filing cabinet for years and years so no light exposure. I can only assume it was the exposure to air that did it as it was a very dark yucky yellow / green colour on the outside of the case, and part of the front panel when you open it.

Does anyone else have the tricorder they did and did yours change colour badly too?
Mine is also in a box somewhere, and I haven't checked on its condition in a while.

Unfortunately, most of the plastic used in toys isn't manufactured with longevity in mind, they frequently become discolored and brittle over time. White and metallic plastics usually fare the worst.

That explains my model of the jjprize changing colour..
