Playmates Toys

I haven't seen a proper comparison either, but I'm pretty sure both the phaser and Enterprise are new molds. I don't think they'd store those things unused for 25+ years either.

The phaser is certainly based on the 90s one, though it was modified quite a bit. The Enterprise seems more substantially different.

The nacelle caps are different…my only grouse is the impulse deck is all clear.

The caps on some cheap razors look a bit like 1/650 AMT Enterprise impulse decks.

Yeah, I saw a bunch of phasers and Enterprises over the weekend. Might pick them up if they go on clearance.

Finally got Gwen and Zero from the Prodigy line. Love that you can detach Zeros legs and display as just the floating piece with arms.

And I get why but the scale between the Universe and Prodigy line does throw you a bit at first. I mean…Gwen is not as tall as Saru.

Okay, I'm biting the bullet. I've ordered Riker and Data. I'd like to try to swap their heads and hands.
There was an idea to let Will perish, make Data first officer and keep Jonathan Frakes as Thomas Riker in the role of operations manager. Data would've also made a logical first officer in "Parallels".

We have seen Data in command red before but as lieutenant commander.

I was at my local "Wally World" today and checked the toy section to see if there was anything new since the last time I was there a couple of months ago...ah, not really. There was the same assortment of just TWOK Kirk, Spock, and Khan, but at least there were more of them on the pegs this time--about two or three of each in an actual dedicated space instead of a Kirk over here, one Khan over there, and so on. They did have about four or five TOS phasers, though. and I was tempted to pick one up but I still have the one from the '90s that still looks and sounds great. Had it been any other phaser--like the PROD phaser--I would have dropped that in my cart in a heartbeat.

Commanders Data and Riker arrived.
Data could already be seen as an alternate version - his rank pips make him look like a full commander.

Unfortunately, to make alternates is not as simple as swapping heads and hands. The torso consists of two parts - front and back. And the neck is part of these torso molds.
The workaround is to remove heads, repaint the neck, and replace the heads.

I've never done any of that before, so to get ready I'm starting with a paintable Jurassic World T. rex figure.

Say Hi to Commander Data Soong, first officer (could've been in "Parallels")
and Lieutenant Commander Thomas "Tom" Riker, chief operations officer ("Second Chances" alternate).

The wrist holes and pegs are different sizes, so I swapped the hands back. I painted with Revell, white for Data and...natural Human skin color gold for Riker.
