Playmates Toys

Weirdly, my Art Asylum Enterprise-A turned yellow practically overnight (well, three months) being packed away in a box because of a move.

I’m thinking I might gold-plate it or something, because I’m not going to try to figure out how to reapply those markings.

Same thing happened to mine. I've been thinking about painting it, and getting some custom decals printed. It's quite an odd scale so nothing off the shelf exists.

Was shopping at Target and decided to check it out on the off chance they had the Prodigy stuff. Nope.

But they did have tons of stuff from last year. Counted 6 of everyone except Saru and Burnham. They even had a few of the 1701’s.

I haven’t seen anything at Target for ages, but mine seems to have downsized the entire “collector’s area” where they used to live.

Lucky. I'm having no luck. Local Walmart is down to just Khan. Probably have to use Amazon :(

I found it varies from store to store. Some have tiny areas, some have huge sections.

I got my first modern Trek action figures - Commander Saru and Science Officer Burnham.

Unfortunately, they really don’t match the size scale of the Jurassic World range but they are close enough to use imagination. They’re “bitesized” enough for the dinosaurs.

I noticed on the Target app all 4 of the Prodigy figures are listed as “online only/not sold in stores” so I ordered Dal and Jankom just in case. Should get them tomorrow.

If it looks like “online only” is indeed the case, I’ll get Gwen and Zero from Amazon for the quicker shipping.

Yes they are in an odd scale that is close to the 4.5"-ish Playmates Trek figures from the 90s but a little taller and more realistically proportioned. I can't think of many current figures that the new Trek line would match with size-wise. Maybe the 5" BST AXN figures such as Buffy and Lord of the Rings characters and KISS band members.

Yep, colour me also perplexed as to the Protostar’s delay - and excited once it actually is produced and on shelves for me to purchase! :)

Yeah, I want to say that Playmates is screwing this up again, but it's probably more likely there isn't that much interest from retailers. At this point I just hope they release Janeway and Rok-tahk so one can have a complete crew. Protostar and the phaser are now in the realm of "pleasant surprise".

Where I sort of question Playmates is that they probably shouldn't have started with the TWOK and TNG stuff, that's only going to appeal to adults, and relegates the offerings to the collector's section (which some stores barely even have).

It's like if when they started their line in the early 90s, but had decided to roll out TOS and movie figures before getting around to TNG...

Wasn’t there a picture of the Protostar prototype and it was more of a playset than an actual ship? Like the saucer flipped open and you could sit one figure in the Captains chair? I’ll have to dig thru this thread.

I still think the Trek line as a whole got screwed over by supply chain issues and other external forces. I have doubts that we ever see that 2nd line that we saw pics of a few months ago.

I think it was more of a concept than anything else. The ship looked like it was a papercraft model of the Enterprise E where the saucer section flipped open to reveal a small version of the Protostar bridge.
