Playmates Toys

I’m curious to see how soon they mix in “classic” characters like Kirk, Sisko, Archer, etc…

I wonder what scale this new line will be in. Probably 6 to 7 inches like a lot of figures these days.
Even if they were to go with 4.5 to 5 inches, they would likely never go back to the cartoony proportions of the 1990s figures, so the new ones and the old ones wouldn't fit together visually.

It’s a huge ask but I really hope they make them in the same style as the og line.

I still expect 2 different lines. A line of smaller figures in the 3 1/4 - 4 1/2 scale and then a larger “collectors” line in a 6 inch scale.

The only thing that could get me more excited at this point is hearing DST will finally release the Enterprise C... or the Reliant. I won't hold my breath though.

Part of me would also be interested in seeing playmates re-issue some of their earlier offerings (TNG Bridge, shuttlecraft, roleplay items, etc" ) in a similar way that other toy makers have offered re-issues of toys from our childhood (The Real Ghostbusters figures and Ecto-1 @ Walmart instantly come to mind)

If they reissue any of the older figures I hope it's without the neon colors of the old accessories. Loved the 90s era of Trek figures, but that was just a bizarre choice all around.

Ah yes, every Starfleet officer with a different color tricorder and other Starfleet equipment. At least the phasers were consistent in the beginning... besides that weird handle thing attached to Data's phaser and his other accessories so that he could "hold" them in his open palms. What was up with that?

I think as time went on they even stopped bothering to paint the phasers with the VOY characters, so the phaser was the same color as the beam.

I did covet the handful of painted props that came withe my Generations Kirk figure. And I eventually cut the orange beams off of all the phasers and disruptors.

I'd be happy if they do another run of the E-E and the E-A. Curse my years of procrastination!

.

I do remember wandering around the Playmate's offices in Torrence, CA late one night and spotting the faceplate prototype for a full-sized tricorder, not the teeny one they ended up selling.

Torrance? Wow, I worked in Torrance for about a quarter century and never knew playmates were there. How funny. I see they are now up in el segundo. Where were they in Torrance?

I wonder if they will be doing the animated characters. I would assume so but considering Eaglemoss apparently had to walk a fine line on the LD stuff at first I wonder….

anyway, just spitballing here. I’m gonna guess we get a single 8 figure line to kick things off. 2 from each of the live action shows. 1 from each of the animated. Something like…

Burnham/Saru - Disco
Picard/Data - Picard
Pike/ Spock - SNW
Mariner - LD
Holo-Janeway (or Dal) - Prodigy

I think the only time they actually did detail work on the accessories was the TOS boxed set. Gold on the communicators, silver details on the phasers, etc…

Pretty standard feature for figures at the time. Probably a cost saving measure by casting accessories in left over cheap plastic no matter what color it is

I wonder if they would do ship with Eaglemoss doing them too.
Model kits are still being made so it would depend greatly on the nature of the contracts. Contracts appear to be extremely specific, so much so that action figures can be made for the same franchise in a similar size by two different companies. It isn't unusual but would depend greatly on how the contracts are structured.

It would presumably be plastic models with lights and sounds, like DST and Playmates previously did.

But I wouldn't hold your breath - those ships are quite complicated and expensive to produce compared with action figures, so I would have thought the focus will stay there initially.
