Playmates Toys

I was always bummed that they didn't do certain action figures. We got bizarre shit like Troi from "Fistful of Datas," but never got a Scotty in the TMP/TWOK Engineering suit, for example? Or a Kirk in Star Trek V landing party gear?

My youngest son loves "Corbomite Maneuver" and I bought him that Playmates diorama with the two Balok figures and Kirk.

That's a great diorama. I also like the Species 8472.

Here are the follow up pictures to my newly acquired Voyager collection, as well as a lot of my Trek SWAG accumulated since my childhood.Forgive me if I haven't formatted the images right, this is the third time in about 17 years I have tried to post pics to this BBS lol

Hey, can I ask you all for some advice on my custom Miles O’Brien figure?

In the early seasons of DS9 O’Brien always had his sleeves rolled up, probably to remind us that he liked to get his hands dirty. The Playmates figure followed suit.

I can’t seem to recall when the uniforms changed in season 5, O’Brien continuing to roll up his sleeves, but I may be wrong.

The question is, should my custom figure of him have his sleeves rolled up or not? Any thoughts gratefully received! :bolian:

Also I seem unable to upload pictures to the forum from my iPhone. Any ideas on how to do it? I’ve uploaded them to a public site and embedded the link but it just comes up with a square with IMG written in it

Here are links in the meantime:

About ten years ago, I was on craigslist and stumbled upon an entire collection of used Playmates Star Trek action figures, playsets and ships in very good condition. The guy said he wanted to give it all away for free! I insisted on giving him fifty dollars for the whole kit and kaboodle, due in part that this represented both our childhoods, and in two big plastic bins I hauled it home. I still have the rest of it somewhere in storage, but below is an image of my current display. Note: the shelving is temporary. LOL

I had problems posting images. I found it you type [*img] picture link [/img] without the * and it should work.

As for a custom O'Briens sleeves, I say roll em up. Poor guy was always tortured on DS9, a non-stop miracle worker who always got the job done. I doubt he ever had the time to roll his sleeves down.

If you want to go really authentic, you could base it off the Season 6 Episode "Rocks and Shoals" and have him tear his pants :techman::bolian:

Very cool! It's like an homage to all the Trek toys I had but lost over the years. I loved the Transporter, Bridge, and engineering (obtained them in that order too). I read too there was someway to contact the transporter and Engineering to the two bridge turbolift doors but I never figured it out.

Props to the Shuttlecraft Goddard too. That was the first Trek Toy I bought from a fleamarket (Along with Tom Paris) many, many years ago. I eventually got the Runabout Orinoco, but it just wasnt the same as the Goddard. Those funky small windows in the front really stuck out like a sore thumb.

The only thing I still have in one piece is the transporter (still in the box, but the box has not aged well lol) I think the bridge and engineering might be in several pieces (along with half of the NX-01 bridge that was released) in some boxes under the stairs at my parents.Oh I wish I could tell younger me to take better care of these Trek treasures.

Ah well, off to ebay to spend some hard earned cash to now fill those gaps from my childhood :rommie:

I haven't had a chance to look through all this yet. Has anyone done any mods to their Playmates stuff (thinking phasers or props specifically) to make them more screen-accurate? I have an Insurrection boomerang-style phaser that I'd love to spice up a little, for example.

I remember getting the Wesley Crusher and ripped shirt Riker figures in a bargin bin (there were dozens of them in there). They didn’t have the accessories with them though.

Also remember the Enterprise, Shuttlepod, Klingon Vor’cha and Romulan Warbirds and their sounds. And the miniature Enterprise and their miniature cast

You can't upload photos to trekbbs.com unless you have a premium (paid) membership. You have to use an external image hosting site and link there. If the image hosting site that allows in-line hotlinking on external sites, then you can use the IMG tag in your post and insert the URL to the image file hosted on that site.

I’ve just posted about the second season Deanna Troi figure from Playmates on my Insta page if you’re interested. There are a couple of my custom figures on there too:

Ah, that's you?! I had just seen your new instagram post before seeing your post here. Love what you're doing on instagram. I'm always looking forward to new posts. Keep up the good work! :bolian:

I can't say he never rolled up the sleeves after the switch, but he did generally keep them rolled down in that uniform.

Thanks Michael; I really appreciate your comments. I plan to photograph every 4.5 figure, ship and accessory - although it might take some years!

I think you might be right here Tosk. I can’t seem to recall O’Brien with his sleeves up post-season 5 so I think my custom will just wear the standard uniform!

Had everything except engineering as a kid as I never found one in any shop in Ireland. It broke my heart as my favourite was laforge

I got introduced to action figures via the Stargate SG-1 line by Diamond Select Toys, so I continued with that scale when I came into the Trek fandom. The Playmates are cute but probably difficult to photograph with that shiny plastic look.

The only Playmates figure I had so far was the one Kirk that comes with the shuttlecraft

I love all the doors and hatches that can be opened. I love stuff one can play with!

I also got the Innerspace shuttlecraft.

No love in here for the 9" ones? Tuvok was the first I got, the others hopefully will arrive soon. First thing I did was repainting his Sims beacon.
