"Planet of the Titans" Revisited

Any complaint I have about is essentially trivial, after rewatching the film too many times to frequently admit to.

Oh, one other thing I wanted to ask. Was combining Luke's two trench runs into one one of Marcia Lucas's contributions?

It seems like a decision made late in the game.. either in editorial or just to reduce the SFX shots ILM had to produce.. in any case I think it's better.

Some critics, even Ebert, noticed that the ending battle took too long as it is.. (while still loving the film)

I don't recall whose idea it was. I'd have to scan through the book again.

That's one of several odd artifacts in the battle, such as the references to "that tower", which we never see.

I assume that tower is one of those surface cannons that show up briefly in closeup. None of the Rebels in the trench get shot down on camera by anything coming from in front of them though (maybe that is why their deflectors are on 'double front?), only by TIEs from behind, so maybe they lost somebody from a surface mount on the first pass (Haven't read the script, just guessing.)

Another good catch. That's actually more glaring than the other line.

Yes to all.

Recently ran across this McQuarrie sketch which appears related to some of the other Titans renderings.

I've also used the Memory Alpha description of Kaufman treatment for my articles and book. Can you tell if it's accurate? Do you know who wrote it?

Okay, guys...five years. Let's start this in a new thread, shall we? I'll lock this one and you can still link to this in the new one. Please remember that if it's older than a year, just start a new thread. Thanks!
