V back in November 2008 first brought up news of about “Planet of the Apes” prequel “Caesar.” in this thread:Conquest of the Planet of the Apes remake!
Kelso pointed out in December 2008 that writer/director Scott Frank was attached and rewriting the script then.

The Fox "Planet Of The Apes" prequel "Caesar" has opened production offices at Mammoth Studios in Burnaby, BC - filming starts mid-July.
Apr 6th

The film, which would be a reboot of the third film in the original series, would tell the story of Caesar and show the rise of the apes before the original 1960’s version
Production Weekly tweeted yesterday that 20th Century Fox has set up production offices for the movie and that it will begin filming in July.
As of yet, a director and cast haven’t been chosen
http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2010/04/07/caesar-gets-starting-date/
so I guess Scott Frank is no longer involved on the project...

Rupert Wyatt, director of The Escapist, will helm the project.

the imdb listing: no details due to it being "in development"

aka "Planet of the Apes: Genesis" - USA (working title)

This thread is about "Caesar" the new film.

All the haters of Tim Burton's 2001 film can go to this thread: Planet Of The Apes 2001 to do more hating.

We had a brief thread about it last month as well... good to see it moving forward. Are they now calling it Planet of the Apes: Genesis? That's even worse than Caesar: Rise of the Apes.

They should get Eric Braeden to come back and play Dr. Hasslein from Escape from the Planet of the Apes.

Why does this have to be a reboot? I don't see any reason why it can't be in continuity with the original series.

I'm not exactly going bananas hearing about this.

Personally, I'm going ape-shit! Seriously though, I loved the original films and I have to admit that I'm geeking out a bit at the idea of a movie that sets up the original film, with modern sensibilities. As long as it bears no resemblance to the abomination created by Tim Burton, I think it could work.

^^
Well, I wouldn't mind if they used the make-up designs from that film. But other than that, yes, absolutely agreed.

Because that was over thirty years ago. Most of the today's audience wasn't even born when the original cycle was a big deal. It makes sense to reinvent the series for the 21st century.

(Heck, the original film was 42 years ago!)

Beside, the original five films already form a nice circular loop. There's no compelling reason to try to squeeze more films into the sequence.

The fourth Planet of the Apes movie, the one with Caesar leading the Ape revolution, is my favorite of the sequels. It's the best pick if they're going to remake any besides the original.

It's Fox, so it just has to be, "Ape-men Beginnings: Caesar"

Because they basically filled the entire backstory in with the 4 prequels.
There's plenty of room for new stories in the old continuity.

As long as it has nothing to do with that abomination from 2001.
Bleah. That is the nuTrek of the Apes. :censored:

As I said, there's plenty of room for new stories; others have done it (the Doug Moench and Mike Ploog stories spring to mind, as does the TV show). It would be easy enough to fit in an elaboration of the life of Caesar or later developments without contradicting the original stories. We still don't know how Humans became mindless, for example.

It's Fox, so it just has to be, "Ape-men Beginnings: Caesar"
When Apes Attack. :rommie:
