Plagerism

If someone starts changing URL's to get to things that aren't meant to be public, isn't that a form of hacking (soft or supereasy hack, or something)?
The Cygnus fellow is a good bloke, so just contacting him about a problem is enough to get it resolved. Especially if it regarding stuff that isn't supposed meant to be clickable/public.

The internet is, by definition, public. While it is possible to intentionally restrict access (through encryption, password-access schemes, etc), if something can be reached through a direct unsecured link, it can in NO WAY be considered "hacking" to access it.

No more than if you accidentally typed in a wrong address and ended up there.

The idea of putting something on an unprotected, unencrypted internet page and then expecting it to be "secure" is actually pretty funny. If you don't want it made public, you'd keep it on your local hard drive, or on a CD, or something like that. There is NO reason to have something on the 'net unless it's intended to be distributed. Is there? You may argue about "limited distribution" or "pay-per-view distribution" or whatever... but it's still distribution.

You know this guy, or you've just dealt with him over a similar issue? The name "Cygnus" isn't ringing any bells for ME...

Yes, good point about typing in a wrong address, I didn't think of it that way. Probably not "hacking" in the traditional sense, but accessing something that wasn't meant to be accessed. Thanks for the clarification.

I know if I worked hard on something I would not mind if others used it but I certainly would be upset if they tried to pass it off as their own work. I would not think that was an elitist mindset.

Not at all in fact I understand it quite well. However personally I don't mind if people did that simply as long as the work is not being used for profit.

Only as thumbnails, clicking them took you to the SD site. The first couple of pages were DLable.
