Places you lived in, want to live in...

Born in Oxnard, CA
Moved to Kaiserslautern, Germany
Moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Moved to Watertown, NY
Moved to Clarksville, TN
Moved to Berkeley, CA
Moved to Sierra Vista, AZ
Moved back to Berkeley
Moved to Washington, DC

In Berkeley, I've lived in 5 different places.

Been to most of Western Europe and a bit of Eastern Europe (I lived in Germany during the Cold War).
Been to the entire Continental United States, Mexico and Canada.

Just picked a few posts out, because it struck me just how differently people view their homes. A nice settled predictable home base is so vital to my sense of happiness that I just couldn't cope with continual upheaval.

I think the fact that I've never really had to move around makes me wonder what it would be like. It feels like I've played it safe by being in the same area my whole life and while I like the stability and history that comes with it, I also think being adaptable is a very useful ability.

Clearly, as you've moved further away from me, and I am widely considered to be the most interesting thing in the province.

No, I was moving AWAY from you

*sniff* I should have known... :(

 Growing up in Brockville, I spent most school trips and vacations in Ottawa!

I was born in Victoria, British Columbia, but my parents moved to Ajax, Ontario (suburb of Toronto) when I was fairly young.

My condolences ;)

Haha, thanks. Yeah, Ajax kind of sucks, especially in comparison to Victoria, but Peterborough was a great place to grow up: tons of lakes and forests around, so I spent a lot of time camping as a kid. And Ottawa is a great city.

Ajax is pretty dull, as is Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa

Peterbourogh is pretty, I went to university at Trent :techman:

Yup. They're little more than GO Train stops to me, now.

Ah, my sympathies. ;) Seriously, I always found Trent strange; they have a beautiful location along the shores of the Otonabee, and then they go and ruin it with some terrifyingly ugly concrete architecture.

I've lived in Nashville, Minneapolis, Denver (Littleton, Lakewood, Arvada, Downtown), and went to college in Fort Collins, Colorado.

I just spent 5 days in Louisville, Kentucky and was once again reminded of the reason why I hate heat and humidity so I'll stick with Colorado. Plus we have pretty mountains.

Other than that, I would like to live in a small-ish costal town somewhere in Oregon or Washington. I love seafood, but it's just not worth it in Denver.

San Bernadino to Corona - essentially grew up in the same house
Corona to Ojai - 6 months
Ojai to Ventura - 9 months
Ventura to Santa Barbara - 2.5 years
Santa Barbara back to Corona - 6 months
Corona to Culver City - 2 years, 1 month
Culver City to LA - 3 months
LA Back to Corona - 2 months
Corona to North Hollywood 11 days (don't ask)
North Hollywood to West LA - 1 year, 2 months and counting

Yep, I moved 4 times last year alone. Most suck-ass year ever.

I've given the LA Metropolitan area a fair shake, and am very unhappy here. So, I'm currently mulling where to go next. I've never lived outside of Southern California. Would love to try Oregon, Colorado, AZ, New Mexico, or move back up to Ventura, try the Bay Area for a while, or move to San Diego.

True. You have to look out the huge picture windows to appreciate the landscape!

And Ottawa is a great city.

...to visit. I wouldn't move back there, even at gunpoint. Highly livable, unless you factor in the weather. I have no interest in ever again freezing my ass off for 5 months, sweating it off for another 5 and scrambling to enjoy the outdoors for the remaining 2. ;)

I've lived in budapest, hungary. And fittja and södertälje in sweden. i've been in pretty much every larger european city and i'll be spending january-july 2011 in the states. what part i'm not sure yet. the student exchange program isnt that accurate but somewhere on the east coast.

I have lived in central VA all my life...I want to move to Hawaii or somewhere else warm with a beach. :)

^
I think Alaska would be neat too...I don't mind cold weather...just love the beach. :)

Bonn was nice when I spent some time there. I wouldn't mind living around there again.

I actually prefer the cold to the three months of rain you get in Vancouver. ;)

The heat can definitely be unbearable, though. It's my least-favourite part of living here. But it's usually all worth it in the end... the weather from mid-August through to the end of October is generally fantastic, IMO.
