One thing I wonder about the live-action scenes is how much time they add to overall production of the reviews. I actually kind of like them (if nothing else, they're different, and they are well put-together), but I am mainly watching for the review itself. If it adds 50% to the production time, for a 10% more fun review, I don't know if that's profitable.:shifty:

Of course, I can ask the same question about the TGWTG skits, which are extremely hit or miss--with the possible exception of Antweiler's and Jones'.

I don't really have an opinion because except for First Contact and Avatar he's just been reviewing movies everyone hates, anyway. (And Avatar is hardly a universally loved film, either).

If he starts going to town on, say, Empire Strikes Back, then let's talk.

^ There have been many instances that have suggested that Plinkett is an old man such as him being a kid on the Titanic, watching old 1930 serials when he was in his 40s, his claim that his kids put LSD in his coffee in the 60s, and his numerous references to having grand kids. This is, of course, in addition to the continuously altered picture of his 1st wife that he killed while destroying his Cadillac.

I just never thought of him as an old man, just more of a psychopathic movie reviewer, or as I like to call them, a movie reviewer. :D

The bullshit he said about "Star Trek: First Contact" really pissed me off, but I'm more mad at the fact that people actually consider it intelligent rather than the arguments themselves. It's like "Lord of the Rings". I watched it and thought it was lame but didn't really feel that strongly about it. Once people started praising it like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, however, I started to get passionately annoyed with it.

Sometimes it takes a combination of something I don't like + massive support for something I don't like to make me mad. If I'd just seen his "Star Trek: First Contact" review and never read any praise for it, I could probably just think, "whatever, he's just an idiot, who cares?", but the fact that people make threads praising that idiocy just gets on my nerves.

I would be a total fan of his if it wasn't for that one review, though. I think everything else he's said has been spot-on and very insightful. The Star Wars prequels I've seen (haven't seen the second one) and the other TNG movies all stink, and he picked them apart in a very intelligent and entertaining way. It's just unfortunate that all of his quality critiquing has to be tainted by his baffling attack on my favourite Star Trek film. I can accept someone having a different opinion from me about something if it's presented in a way that is thoughtful and professional. His skewering of "Star Trek: First Contact" fails on both levels. I don't find it logical or eloquent at all, and on top of that, it's also obnoxious.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why people don't find that funny. The thing is, if they actually sat and watched them all, they'd see it was a giant set up so the girl is seen sitting watching AOTC with him and even SHE cannot stand it.

Fucking HILARIOUS!!!!!

To top it all off, she outsmarts him and distracts him and escapes at the very end!

Oh and the ST:FC review was spot on - the more time we get from that film, the worse it is. I remember when it first came out, friends of mine I took to see it with were like, "So they sent only ONE cube.....and it FAILED......and they NEVER tried again."

It's pretty lame all 'round and smacked of "Let's have borgs going around the corridors like in the scary Alien films" sequences.

Oh and it should have been Beverly that confronts Picard when he "broke his little ship", not the guest star of the week. That was a HUGE problem with the TNG films - people acted out of character and others were relegated to the background to suit the needs of the GSotW.

Lame.

I kind-of like that part but the hooker story I felt was needless and took up too much time. I'd rather those reviews be, well, reviews not some story about a psychotic man who kidnaps and kills women.

Questioning a MAJOR thing like "They failed once with ONE cube, so why not try again and again again and again and AGAIN with FOUR THOUSAND cubes" is hardly a nitpick.

You seem to be playing the apologist quite well. Practice?

Okay, I'm sick of arguing about this movie with people here. It's been over a year now. At least "Star Trek: First Contact" hate seems to be limited to the Internet. Until I started reading online Star Trek opinions, I had no idea it had so many detractors. It's still one of the top three grossing films in the franchise and among the top three most critically acclaimed. RLM and those who agree with him can keep their little club. I can only shake my head in bewilderment at it.

Um... okay.

Whatever. It's like saying...

"Wrath of Khan sucks. I remember when it first came out, friends of mine I took to see it with were like, "So Khan leaves Kirk on the planet SO HE CAN ESCAPE, like a Batman villain in the 60s show, INSTEAD OF GOING DOWN AND EXECUTING KIRK HIMSELF."

Questioning a MAJOR thing like "Khan failed to kill Kirk once, so he LEFT HIM ALONE WITH HIS FRIENDS is hardly a nitpick."

And you're trying to make ME out to be the crazy person. You people and RLM with your FC criticisms are ridiculous..

I didn't realize my opinions about a movie critic so negatively affected the enjoyment of your favorite movies.
Your posts seem awfully flustered over a handful of opinions. Just relax.

Lame.

I saw AOTC with my work team first run on a work outing. All of us were big SWOT fans and were appalled at the crapfest TPM was and laughed out loud at the entire AOC. My wife feels the same way and indeed, like myself and like most others I know feel that the prequels were absolute garbage.

Red makes a ton of good points, like Anakin's psychopathic behavior (killing all the sand people, trashing Obi Wan) and this is the idiot Padme decides to marry after knowing him 3 days? All the points about no character development versus the original films, etc. and in fact, NO heart at the center are all quite valid no matter how many times people have said this. Also the points about "suddenly super Ninja Yoda" are right on the $ too. What is this trend that everyone has to be an action hero?

First Contact? I actually know of no TNG fans other than the Internet who like that film, myself included. Yes, Crusher was the one to consol/confront Picard, not the chick of the movie at hand. Red makes great points about out of character Picard (action hero Picard/trashing the TV series Picard) and the emphasis of Data and Picard at the expense of everyone else due to Stewart and Spiner's egos.

Love Red's reviews. Sorry.

I find the reviews hilarious even though I don't agree with every thing he says.

If his reviews actually make you mad... you should find something more worthwhile to get mad about, or count your blessings that's all you have to be upset about.
