Pine channels the Shat

Did anyone else notice how well Chris Pine channeled Shatner at the end of the movie when he enters the bridge as Captain Kirk in his gold tunic?

And it wasn't just the crossing of the legs in the chair, but it was also the Shatner mannerisms in his walk, posture and smirk.

I was so impressed at Pine's Kirk through out the movie, but that last scene just screamed Shatner to me. I was blown away. I loved it for its subtlety.

I was going to open a thread on this. It's true, but he really doesn't channel the Shat until later in the film (example: when he says "Spock" while talking on the Jellyfish) This is entirely appropriate, considering that history nis a bit different, and he is not quite the same guy early in the film, as he is a fatherless drifter, so it was appropriate that he is not the shatner-like Kirk we all know until he starts to take a commanding role in what happens on the ship. I want to take my hat off to Pine for being able to pull this off.

Yeah, his subtle mannerisms were awesome. I actually saw them a bit peppered throughout the film, and then really there at the end.

He did a great job of channeling Shatner, and yet not turning it into a parody.

I really hope he continues to give us the subtle "Shatner-isms" for the next film and beyond....

I saw it too and I think he did a great job. Before seeing the movie I was so certain I wouldn't like his character, but he was/is brilliant. And for the first time ever I quite like Kirk.

Throughout the movie Pine gave glances and mannerisms that were The Shat.

Especially talking to Spock when they beam over to the Narada, the banter between the two really shows how they both worked on their portrayals.

The end however is the perfect Shat moment. Crossed legs, lounging in a dignified way in the chair and glancing ahead. He did it very well.


Heres hoping he doesnt over do it in the next one.

Didnt anyone else think that during the Kobayashi Maru, his outright arrogance WAS Shatner? That bit above all else he was doing an immitation of the shat, and because it was him being a dick, i think he pulled it off

There's also Shatner's signature dramtaic pause when he adds "Captain" to the end of Uhura's speech. I think I doubled on that one.

"Beginrescueofthestrandedcrew...SO...we've managed to eliminate all enemy ships..."

It's cute because he's playing this as theatrical "I'm making believe I'm Captain, look at me."

The apple, ala TWOK's "I don't like to lose" scene is nice too.

I noticed last evening that apart from Uhura and Bones - okay, maybe including Uhura in a kind of rueful way - the rest of the cadets whose reactions we see look delighted to have beat the test. Bet they try to sign on to serve aboard the Enterprise under Kirk.

because Bones knows what's coming and Uhura... well, Uhura's pulling for her man.

I agree i thought pine nailed it he is a has the talent to be a better kirk and i like bill as kirk ,but noticed all the small detial pine put in and it was worth it in my eyes
