Pine "Apparently Confirmed" as Kirk

One thing that does hold interest to me if this 'Apparently Confirmed" becomes confermed is why Pine chose Trek XI over working with Clooney? That could be a bigger movie, though here he could get first billing i.e. PINE, QUINTO, STAR TREK.

Any news on PineNotKirk.com? :p

I have no idea who this is. I guess I'll have to look him up...

thats true, Bana is the bigger name here, hell he probaly got first billing on Hulk (ive not seen it, but I think he was the Hulk in it)

Check please!

This movie has officially moved into the category of DOOMED. Chris Pine can't act his way out of a paper bag. Just check out the drivel he did in "Just My Luck" and "Princess Diaries 2". I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

And while I am at it, did TPTB give ANY consideration to having an African American man in one of the top roles? Why not a black Spock or a black Kirk? Who says that they HAVE to be white just because the previous actors playing them where? IDIC my ass.

looking at the cast so far they are going for likeness.

that said im not a huge fan of just changing peoples gender, race of sexuality willy nilly, you can add a black character to the movie, its not like the cast is limited to the characters from the TV series.

If it was a BSG style relaunch then a black actor would be fine for Kirk or Spock, but the film is taking place in the existing continuity so quite quite frankly its a ludicrous suggestion! Have you got any other bright ideas? Jeremy Irons playing Shaft in a continuation of that franchise perhaps?

Why? What is it about Kirk and Spock that dictates that they MUST be white?

And your calling it a ludicrous suggestion smacks of racism. We don't need that here. IDIC, remember?

Pine is my favorite choice out of all the actors we were made aware of.

He still doesn't remind me of Kirk (maybe he will when they are done "putting him together"), but he does have a certain "young hero" quality about him that I think will shine through whether he reminds us of Kirk or not.

Although I did see him in that Lohan movie, and it was terrible.

Is it bad that my only opinion of Pine is that he better do something about those eyebrows if he plays Kirk??? Dye them, pluck them, something.

If I were him I would pick Star Trek over that other movie. It will definitely get more hype and could really help to launch his career.

Assuming it doesn't bomb.

Great news... I have no idea who Pine is, you understand, but he looks right, and the rest of the cast seems to be up to par ... so I'm gonna give this news a big smile ... Bring on McCoy!

I thought about this. The African American actors who came to my mind as suitable for Kirk were all about ten years too old for this movie.

If they were casting older...hell, I'd like to see Morgan Freeman as Bones.

What dictates that they should be white (or white with green tint in Spocks case)?

79 episodes and 6 or 7 movies do tend to establish the ethnicity of the characters! This is not racism its common sense! If this was a BSG style reinterpretation of the original series or they were new characters in the movie then I wouldn't give a fuck about the skin colour of the actors! However its not a reinvention its a continuation therefore Kirk should be played by a white man, Uhura should be played by a black woman and Sulu by an Asian man!

Never mind my comments smacking of racism, your allegations are not only offensive but "smack" of you having a giant fucking penis on your head!

Forget about the "fans are too obsessed with Trek stuff to the exclusion of important things" notion - clearly, a lot of us shouldn't be encouraged to discuss anything more important than TV shows.

Also, they were way too black.

Okay, so you're saying that these characters must have a certain skin color, eye color, hair color, height and weight? After all, if we're talking visual continuity, it would stand to reason, right? Even though such things have nothing to do with their performance. Since you're so big on visual continuity, you also expect the Enterprise to look exactly the same, right? And the Klingons should have smooth foreheads, right?

Never mind my comments smacking of racism, your allegations are not only offensive but "smack" of you having a giant fucking penis on your head!

IDIC, my friend. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

Clark Peters, from HBO's The Wire, would be a better Bones--he's a great actor who could be got for a lower price and he's in the right age range for a Star Trek re-boot set during the 5ym, opposit, say, Keifer Sutherland as Kirk and Hank Azaria as Spock.

If Trek were elastic enough to support a plethora of incarnations--like Batman and Bond--I'd be all for such a re-boot. But it's not.
