This is heartening news. It implies that Paramount has enough faith in the franchise to keep the increasingly costly actors.

I look forward to many more adventures with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, as well as the rest of the cast (Please bring back Karl Urban!)

Oh wow. I did not see it coming as I thought quinto was ready to move on. I am sort of mixed on this. For me, it should have ended with a trilogy and been rebooted again for another trilogy with tng characters.

I agree apart from the end bit (though I'd love a TNG revisit) - the trilogy I was hoping would give way to a new TV Series.

I'd like to see how Lin does, to be completely honest. Abrams was fine. But Lin's F&F movies have been fun. He might bring something new to Trek.

Only to a fourth film? I guess if STID had been a success, they'd have probably signed them up to a fifth film.

Then again, maybe this fourth film they signed for will actually be the third film, since some are still saying there really isn't a third film.

Going to have to leave an evening open in my calendar in the summer of 2018.

I wonder if Paramount's opinion of Pegg and Jung's script mattered at all in their thinking.

JJ probably won't have time, IIRC he's directing all three of the SW sequel trilogy.

As for The Rock and Jason Statham: They'd make a pretty good pair of, say, Starfleet Marine troop leaders or something like that.
