Pike's "woman on the bridge" line

In that case, it seems I seriously mis-read the intent of your post back there!
More live action is needed on TrekBBS, I reckon ;)
To get to the idea that he wasn't really serious about it, you have to already be at the idea that it's what they're talking about.

In that conversation, Pike brought it up, and Boyce efficiently info-dumped what it meant to the audience.

My read: Pike is close to the breaking point, and he's starting to muse about taking a walk on the wild side. The fact that he's vulnerable to the temptations that Vina acts out for him is part of the drama here. They come from his own mind: things he did back in the good old days, forbidden fruit that crosses his mind when he's down in the dumps. The drama is: can Pike be tempted by getting to live out his own fantasies?

Given everything in the Trek universe produced after the pilot, especially Discovery, could Pike's sexist line from The Cage be retconned to suggest he doesn't feel comfortable with having a 'woman' as opposed to a female officer, on the bridge? Colt appears very young and fresh out of the academy, and functions really only as a yeoman. Perhaps he feels a front line ship's bridge is really no place for inexperienced non-commissioned personnel?

Naw, keep it in. It shows that Pike was tired and emotionally compromised (thanks to a mission that cost the lives of several of crew), and it occurred a few years in the past (vis-a-vis DSC). It's a character flaw that I hope that was addressed, but one that doesn't need to be addressed on-screen.

This is going to be very interesting come 1966. How progressive am I allowed to be and still be plausibly from 1966?

On the other hand, "different times" and all that notwithstanding, people were still fighting for equality, representation, and respect. So I think I could find the line cringe-worthy.

I'm glad Pike's line isn't in Menagerie. I don't have to worry about it since it's not canon.

PIKE: I said that's one place I might go. I might go into business on Regulus or on the Orion colony.
BOYCE: You, an Orion trader, dealing in green animal women, slaves?
PIKE: The point is this isn't the only life available. There's a whole galaxy of things to choose from.
That's a full-blown admission that Pike is talking about maybe becoming an Orion slave trader. Boyce said it, Pike confirmed that that was what he was talking about.

Translation:
PIKE: I'm not even going to dignify that with a response.

Or, "Once you go green, you never go back."

Something to add to the Pike spin-off ;-p

Come on you can do better than that:

"Once you go green, you'll never come clean."
or
"Once you go green, you'll think slaves are keen."
or my personal favorite
"Once you go green, canon is what's seen on screen."

But I've heard from a well respected member of the of the business community, a theater manager, that "it's not easy being green."
