Hi everybody. I got back from my summer holiday yesterday, and thought I would share some crappy photos. I only had an iphone 3, and most of the night time shots got totally blown out by the stage lights, many are taken while dancing...
I saw a lot more bands than shown here, but I had to charge my phone each day, so often left it in a locker for half the day.
Day one.
First up: Motorbike, loaded with backpack, tent is in the top box, ready for leg one, 250 mile ride to Knebworth.
First night at Sonisphere, no bands on, so got drunk and went shopping, and on fairground rides.

Best ride, basically a big 100 metre high pole with seats on the end that goes round and upside down and stuff. Great fun:
Day two.

I also say Anthrax play all of a classic album in the tent, but had my phone recharging for that.
Day three in next post.

Babymetal, the most WTF moment of the holiday. 3 Japanese teenage girls who dance and sing to Death Metal:

125 mile ride to Leeds to meet up with friends and see Pearl Jam:
This was amazing, they played for 3 and a half hours, and I was 2 people from the front.
Afterwards we all went out and partied til 5am at a bar playing Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Nirvana, Jurassic Five and all the greats from the 90s, which was packed with Pearl Jam fans all drinking and dancing and singing.
I then rode the 125 miles back to Birmingham the next day, stayed with my parents for a few days, then another 250 miles back to Cornwall on Friday where I am now sitting I my living room typing this.

In the Latest Purchase thread a few weeks back, I posted about buying a teak outdoor table and chair set. Well it was finally delivered yesterday. It was suppose to be delivered on June 27th but their truck broke down. Then they couldn't deliver the week of fourth of July, they only come up to the Syracuse area on Fridays.
Yes, the previous owners didn't take very good condition of it. We have only been in the house little over a year. We are going to get the house painted and deck redone this summer.
Great deck and great furniture. I'm a fan of the weathered, simple and rustic look when it comes to outdoor furniture and the less color and detailing the better. It just all looks so much more relaxing.
I'm 100% with you on that, feel exactly the same way.

MLB have you now completed this years ballpark tour extravaganza?
Well, I have one more week of vacation left, but I've saved it for my customary yearly trip to New York City. I try to see a few Yankees and Mets games (they're my favorite teams) every year.
As of now, though, I have indeed seen every ballpark in the major leagues. Every one that exists today, anyway. There are a lot of ballparks that I never got the chance to see - Tiger Stadium in Detroit, Comiskey Park in Chicago, etc. - because they were torn down before I ever got there.
Please don't take this as bragging, though. I would never mean it like that. I know I talk about baseball a lot - maybe too much.
It's just that...well, baseball is pretty much all I have, so I can't help but talk about it.

It's not bragging, it's a hobby. Glad you have now seen 'em all! Enjoy NYC, which IMO it is impossible not to do! What are your plans when you go there?
It's been awhile since I've been up in the Empire State Building (I have developed a fear of heights) so maybe I'll suck it up and go back up there too. Plus I like to take riverboat cruises, like on the Circle Line (they have a great tour that goes all the way around Manhattan Island). And I wouldn't mind a good Broadway show if I could find one that I liked!
Mostly, though, my trips are centered around baseball. It's really all that I know anything about.
You should take the ferry to Staten island if you've got good weather days for water. I've never done that circle line but it looks fantastic.
I remember when I went up the WTC, stepping out onto that roof I was unable to move my foot forward for several seconds because it was totally counter intuitive to personal safety.. SO HIGH UP. CLOUDS. eek.. but I did suck it up of course. The tallest building here is all glass on the observation and you can pay some unseemly sum to step out onto glass as well but I skip that part.
Don't forget to eat a pretzel. Do they still sell knishes on the street?

Yeah, I do the Staten Island Ferry every time I go to NYC. It's mainly a commuter line, but it gives good views of the harbor and the city skyline - and it's free!
I had the same reaction a few weeks ago when I went up in the CN Tower in Toronto. There's part of it that has a glass floor and I took a few minutes before I dared walk out onto it, my knees were shaking so bad. Then some other jackass decides to JUMP UP AND DOWN on it.
Oh yeah. They have every kind of food you could ever want. Knishes, hot dogs, burgers, sausages, the lot. Although when I'm not eating at the ballparks, I like to go to Katz's Deli for lunch.
Yeah you know you are totally safe barring a disaster but it's instinctual. Though I would make myself walk out on something like that I will never fly in a helicopter.
