Picard's age

picardo

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
At the time Patrick Stewart was casted for TNG he was in his late forties, and yet his character is meant to represent a much older man. Given his Starfleet experience, captain rank, and personal anecdotes he recounts, Picard should be a man well into his 50s, that is, 10 years older than actor Patrick Stewart was.

Of course Mr. Stewart looks like a much older person, which is explained, in part, by his bald look, he's a younger actor playing a much older character.

As a general rule, captains are in their fifties (Janeway an exception) admirals well into their sixties, while lieutenants and other junior officers either in their twenties or mid-thirties. Commanders, like Chakotay and Riker, undoubtedly in their forties.

So, how old is Picard? Is this mentioned in any episode?

Kirk is most certainly not in his 50s as a captain. He was in his 30s.

Picard's year of birth is listed as 2305 in Conundrum, making him 59 at the start of TNG.

I think I recall Stewart on Arsenio Hall during TNG's fifth season saying Picard was 45. Sure, Patrick, whatever you say.

Which is perfect, as far as I'm concerned. It reinforces the idea that humans live longer in the 24th Century.

"Hey, check out Picard...he's 60, but he looks 45!"

So to start TNG, the ages are (actor ages in parentheses)-

Picard - 59 (47)
Riker - 29 (35)
Data - Technically 28 (38)
Geordi - 29 (30)
Worf - 24 (26)
Beverly - 40 (38)
Troi - 28 (32)
Wesley - 16 (15)
Tasha - 27 (30)

Just by the look of them, neither is John Harriman, (Alan Ruck 38 was at the time of Generations) or Rachel Garrett. (Tricha O'Neil was 45 at time of Yesterday's Enterprise)

Picard is the only captain already over the age of 50, that we've seen posted to the Enterprise... Unless you count Jellico

^ We saw him as Captain in TWOK, which was 15 years after "Space Seed", which was roughly around the time of "The Menagerie", which was 13 years after "The Cage". So that's 28 years right there.

So you're correct that there's nothing on screen explicitly stating he was 50 or over in TWOK, but he only had to be at least 22 years old in "The Cage" in order for it to be true.

Oops, I misread your post as saying Spock was 50 during TOS.
