Picard to drop in the MORNING of Jan 23rd

Honestly, if CBSAA is dropping this at what, 3am EST, then I don't get why Amazon don't just put it out at the same time (8am GMT). Releasing the next day made sense when they were airing it in the evening in the US (UK was getting it about 6-7 hours later), but the delay makes less sense now that CBS are going a bit more modern day with their release pattern.

Does CBSAA check if you’re behind VPN? I know Netflix and Amazon do and will show you a big fat middle finger if they detect it. They don’t always detect it, so it’s still possible to do VPN but it’s not trivial. Don’t know about CBSAA practices in that regard

Unfortunately CBSAA checks the location of your client side IP address. In addition to that, they seem to have a large blacklist of known VPN IPs. Its quite similar to Netflix, where you need a good VPN provider with lots of U.S. based servers to choose from in order to eventually find a server which hasn’t been blacklisted (yet).
Im using NordVPN which seems to be one of the pricier VPN providers, but they get the job done. DNS redirection services won’t work though. If you’re not a complete maniac (just as myself) i can’t recommend the process...

I read that the app won't even play downloaded episodes for offline viewing when you're abroad... how does that work? Isn't the purpose of offline viewing that you can watch them on a trip somewhere?

For Canada, the only source I see is from a May news article about the episode dropping on Crave on the 24th (after it airs on CTV Sci Fi Channel the night before). However, season 2 of Short Treks were on Crave Thursday mornings just like CBSAA (and unlike season 1 of Short Treks and both seasons of Discovery), so I'm hoping Picard will be the same.

For us Voyager fans, it's been almost NINETEEN years!

Up until word got out this past summer that Seven of Nine was coming back, we thought "Endgame" was all she wrote. :(

We'll find answers to so many Seven-related questions (e.g., did she ever marry Chakotay? What did she do after she arrived back in the Alpha Quadrant? Did she ever team up with the Doctor again (although
that is likely will be addressed in Season 2)

We got confirmed appearances by Picard, Seven, Riker, Troi, Data, and likely several more characters. For the first time since the mid 1990s, it's a very exciting time to be a Trekkie :):):hugegrin:.

I'm glad they're acting like a normal streaming service and not making me wait for prime time. I hope that's their standard operating procedure going forward.

Of course, now I'll be sitting at work all day every Thursday eager to get home, knowing that there's a new episode of Star Trek out in the universe that I haven't seen yet.

CBSAA USED to do that with STD (IE they'd release the new episode at 8:00 PM EST on the day); but I think they realized that Streaming isn't like a TV network, and many people were complaining, PLUS their network backend was getting overloaded in 'Prime Time'.

Thus, they now release at Midnight ON the day (IE first thing) and there probably aren't that many folks clicking 'refresh' at that time of night, and the backend load gets more evenly distributed, even on the first day of release.

This seems like a defensible choice, although I will miss the "appointment viewing" feeling I felt with Discovery, knowing that friends and family were tuning in just as the show went live. Ah well. Not a big deal.

Agreed. following along int he discussiion thread on here right at 8pm when it dropped was fun.

So hands up, who in the US is going to have watched the first episode before they walk out the door for work on Thursday? ;)

Well I don't have a job to think about being on disability but soon as it turns midnight I am going to try and watch it. I will double check every 10 minutes until it's ready to watch.
