Picard Put-Downs!

When he was asking for a cloaked ship in reunification, a nice subtle one.

"whats in it for the empire...im sure gowron will ask"

"my gratitude"

"THATS WHAT YOU WANT ME TO TELL HIM???"

"yes, and please add that if he is unable to provide us with a ship, I'm sure there would be others in the empire who would be willing to help me, and then..THEY would have my gratitude"

That's a great one.

Oh, I just thought of a good one.

In (Ensigns of Command?) when he's trying to convince the Shelliack to give them more time to evacuate the planet and they won't budge. He finds a loop-hole in the contract between their two people and he "hangs up" on them. The Shelliack try calling back but Picard just lets the hailer ring "off the hook" as he wipes duest off the ship's plaque before answering. They agree to his adjusted terms and he simply replies, "Thank you."

Awesome moment.

This was GREAT!

"You have manipulated the circumstances/situation* with all the skill of a Romulan."

Picard: Master of the oblique slam-dunk. :techman:

* – Sorry; couldn't remember the exact quote.

Picard works Admiral Satie into a fury by quoting her father and then allows her to utterly destroy herself in open court. That was sick!

Picard works Ambassador Sarek into a fury with the mention of a single tear and then allows him to completely lose control of his Vulcan mind. That was really sick!

One more...

When he says to Kolrami, "I am the Captain of this vessel. Your order is nullified!" The guy looked like he was just slapped in the face.

There's the first one.

When Q hands Picard the List of Charges Against Humanity and asks him to read it aloud Picard just reads it silently to himself for a few moments before handing it back, "I see nothing in the list against US, your Honor."

Phew... no wonder he was knifed in the back by a Naussican.

Well, that happened because he "stood up to the biggest of them, told him what I thought of him and his people and maybe made a passing reference to his questionable parantage" or he simply just started attacking the guy.

Depending if you believe his words or what he actually did. ;)

He complimented Worf for the latter's "humanity", which was a slap in the face against Worf's Klingon heritage.

Kinda like when Kirk said of all the souls he'd encountered in his travels Spock's was yadda yadda yadda?

I doubt Worf would take it that way

That is what made it really insulting. Because Worf should have taken it that way, considering how he felt about his Klingon heritage.

But we make excuses for it, since Picard's words were nothing more than another example of Trek's habit of putting humanity on a pedestal.

Worf was proud of his heritage, and Picard didn't demean it... he told him that he managed to take the best of both cultures

Worf was raised and lived with humans...

Seeing how Q and Spock were kind of hypocritical in their comments on humanity and how "barbaric" we all are, Picard's comments are basically the counter-balance.

Excellent exchange, PhoenixIreland!

I also like in The Wounded when Picard tells Gul Macet he knows that the ships the Cardassians claimed weren't carrying weapons were heavily shielded for that very reason. He says, "Take this message back to your leaders, Gul Macet. We'll be watching!" And he turns his back on the Cardassian, dismissing him.

Picard knows how to be pissed in a civilized way!

JM:

I believe that's from Redemption, Part 1, and he's referring to the Duras sisters, Lursa and B'Etor, a not-so-subtle reference to their involvement with the Romulans, of course. And I guess that being compared to Romulans is a big insult to Klingons in general!

That was another great Picard scene.

"SHUT UP, WESLEY!" - simple, but effective! :p

I quite like his appeal to Gallatin in the turbolift in Insurrection:
"A man who denies his own conscience. A coward without the moral courage to prevent an atrocity. You offend me." Sugarcoating - a term Picard is not familiar with.

Nemesis:
Shinzon: I hope you're still alive, Jean-Luc
Picard: (not even giving him his full attention, SENDING A TEXT no less, despite the death and destruction around him) Oh, yes...

Generations: He doesn't even have to say anything-
Picard tosses a rock at the forcefield
Soran: Don't you have anything better to do?
Picard just sits down casually :p

Soran: PICAAAARD! Get away from that launcher! NOW!
Picard just runs away with the "hee hee hee, you're about to kerplode" plan in action. Priceless.
