Picard and Wesley

In What ways was Picard close to Wesley? Did Wesley see him as a father figure? I look forward to some replies.

Wesley IMHO saw every guy he knew as a father figure... because he didn't have a father of his own

Now... In what ways was Picard close to Wesley? I think it was mostly guilt

Agree on both counts. Picard no doubt felt somewhat guilty about ordering Wesley's father on the mission that killed him, even if that's just par for the course when you're in command. Perhaps he also felt a bit guilty about having been so brusque with him when he was younger. I do think that Wesley taught him to relate a bit better to kids, at least smart ones.

A common fan theory is that Wesley is actually picard’s son (this is NOT canonical as of now).

Officially, though, he was a friend of wesley’s parents and ended up ordering his father to the mission that killed him and that was it.

It's an interesting angle since it was evident Beverly and Picard appeared very close. I appreciated the relationship he had with Wesley and I thought he was a sort of surrogate father to him like Dax was a surrogate Mother to Jake or Troi and Alexander. Trek had a way to handle these elements well.

I never bought the theory that Wesley is Picard's son. I still don't. I think it's bullshit - Picard is not a homewrecker.

If he and Beverly grew close, it was well after Jack's death. Now of course there wouldn't be anything wrong with that - Beverly isn't supposed to be alone for the rest of her life. But while Jack was alive, Picard never said or did a thing.

^Amen. The man appears to have been utterly horrified at himself for even having the feelings for her, that he had while Jack was alive. He certainly would've never acted on them, & we literally get to see Beverly say she had no idea there were even feelings there, or if she sensed anything she never made any direct connection to a romantic interest at that time.

I actually wish they would have gone the route of Wesley being the love-child of Picard and Beverly. It would have given the characters some edge. And particularly Dr.Crusher could have used any potential storyline to enrich and edvance the character.

No thank you. That's some lame soap opera nonsense.

I didn't know there was one, and I too, if there was a theory, wouldn't buy Wesley is Picard's son or a homewrecker. The series presented signs Picard had a fondness for Jack and Beverly and I could see because of this friendship he would adopt those feelings for Wesley.

I have no doubt that 24th century birth control is 100% reliable... if you take the pill/hypospray/implant/whatever. If you don't, then nature still takes its course.
