Picard and 25%

I think he meant the visual differences PIC has in comparison to the other TNG-era shows. Which is pretty meaningless, since PIC takes place 20 years after them, so visual differences are inevitable.
Precisely the point ;)

Are you sure you read that right? That picture isn't in Eaves' book (I own it). Also your Embedded image didn't work so here

Can't make out what the top text is trying to say, but the bottom text I think says:
"H: Scott(?) - -word I can't make out- this too was a part of the 25% Difference Between the two ships"

I'm actually starting to think that this isn't a note from a superior, but something one of them did for the presentation. Just based on the wording.

It was on one of Trekcores Facebook posts regarding his book. I can’t remember if it’s a preview page or just showing one of the many images that they decided not to use. I haven’t got the time to scroll through all the old FB posts to find it. I tried, but they are prolific posters!

My point is simply that whilst the reason for the 25% difference has been categorically denied as being for legal reasons, the designers are operating on a principal (however I’ll defined) that designs from TOS must be somewhat modified. Who knows why? Merchandising? But categorically not because they can’t use the old designs.

I follow a lot of vfx artists on a variety of social media. A lot of talent that worked on ‘old Trek’ wanted in on Discovery and it seems that many were rejected purely because they worked on older shows. There’s bitterness out there, just look at Mojo, Drexler, Koerner and even the Okudas posts on DSC. They hate it. I read that round nacelles were banned by the original show runner

No, that’s what happened with Geoff Mandel and JJ Abrams. Drexler did work for Discovery, for three day as part of CBS digital, then production moved to Canada and CBS Digital was dissolved. The Okudas also told they were invited to work for Discovery but they didn’t want the hassle to move to Canada (and perhaps also because they were with CBS digital too). Eaves stayed because he didn’t have to move and because he always goes along with the producers. In the end it was because it was cheaper to use a Canadian company.
