Yes they should. And it's your opinion on the characters in DSC and PIC are crappy. I enjoy Picard immensely.

No, they shouldn't.
They are good characters which should be around for many books in the future.
And the NuTrek movies, DSC and PIC are all crap.
PIC was horrible. Sort of "TNG from hell".
Dark and gloomy overall with blood-splattering torture scenes. A typical 2010's-2020's serie.
