PIC S3 Ships & Tech

Works for me. I'd also hazard the thought that whatever the ship's origin, it was updated with Dominion tech - starting with the computers and LCARS to give the slimy crew a familiar interface, and the equally slimy communications pool at the back of the bridge. It also gives them a pass for the chairs.

True. But IMO the design laguage could have easily changed and I'd have believed the Shrike was a Dominion design if you squinted a bit. As for the chairs, it was only referenced ONCE in all of DS9 that Dominion ships don't use chairs, but we see it a zillion times after that, so it'd have easily been missed IMO even to seasoned fans.

To me the Shrike looked more like a Breen ship than a Jem’Hadar ship. But I’m sure the Breen had nothing to do with its construction.

The more I think about it, it would have made more sense for Vadic’s ship to have been an experimental Section 31 vessel she and her crew confiscated along with the other stuff they took from Daystrom Station rather than yet another derivative Eaves alien ship design that they didn’t bother to give us an origin story for. Although I suppose if they made it look too much like the Section 31 ships from DSC it might give away a plot point.

It is funny. Before the streaming era, Countdown + Star Trek Online depicted the Tal Shiar as specially salvaging Borg technology to upgrade their resources, including the Narada's monstrously enlarged hulll as a gift to Nero. Now here in Star Trek: Picard, the Tal Shiar are involved in the researching the Artifact, but are not especially involved in disseminating Borg-inspired technology, which even Starfleet has in 2401.

I also guessed the Shrike had been upgraded by the Borg, but other posters here have made a more convincing case that it's just an unusual-looking Dominion ship.

I assumed the Shrike was just some private-market ship bought from some seller out there in unregulated non-Federation space.

The small ships Vadic's group used were at least third party according to Dave Blass (and a reuse of an Elachi/Shroomie design from STO)

Agreed. Here at the library the twitter links above just send me to the log-in page---dirty sods...I hope they're not going photobucket on us.
