Phoenix Mars Mission

nasatbbs.jpg

Get back to work, this is no time for thread bombs!

We should know in about 30 minutes. Reportedly, the solar panels are going to open in 20 after landing to allow the dust to settle.

But think about it. Provided the data on this is good, we now have not one, but three active scientific devices on the surface of Mars.

Yeah, there is still a lot that has to happen. But the fact we made it to the surface in one piece is a good sign.

I hope this mission is successful, but I doubt the public will ever know if "life" is discovered on Mars. If this mission manages to discover frozen amoebas or other proof life existed once on Mars, the govt will hush it up and the only evidence we will "see" are amateur videos on YouTube from people claiming the video is proof of a govt coverup.

um....how can one cover up transmissions from Mars when they are freely avaliable to everyone?

I don't know, but I'm sure somehow Hoaglund will find a way to assert it that will be quickly debunked in a matter of weeks, if not days.

We already have the evidence that the environment was habitable at one point in Mars' history. That much has been come out without any kind of coverup to be seen. Why would the infamous "They" cover up evidence of past life if "They" are perfectly comfortable with the notion of us knowing that conditions on Mars were at one point what we would consider habitable?

"They" have already allowed us to know part A of the equation, why would they not let us know part B?

It's not as though the Second Genesis on Mars theory hasn't been floating around for years now.

Also, NASA has already tried to announce evidence for past life on Mars (the 1996 microfossil that turned out not to be a microfossil), so I think it's pretty much guaranteed they would do so again if they found evidence. And frankly, given that an announcement of that magnitude would do wonders for increasing their budget, they'd be pretty stupid not to!

I'm surprisingly excited that the landing was successful and I can't wait for the scientific results in a few months. NASA has had quite the string of successes recently, so good for them!

Look closely at the first panorama views of the horizon. One has something Rich'll be labeling a "face" from either a statue or an android pretty quickly. It's right near the bottom of the full image.

All in all, another great job by JPL and NASA.

I noticed that some of the early photos are black & white. Obviously, NASA had not finished colorizing them with that familiar, phony orange patina, something needed to conceal Mars' real appearance. ;)
