Phoenix Mars Mission

If you haven't seen it, skip over to JPL's Phoenix site and check out the image of Phoenix under its chute taken by Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. You can see the shroud lines... a truly spectacular image.

The landing site might not be much to look at but this mission should be very interesting while it lasts. At this afternoon's briefing, I was surprised to hear that Phoenix is at a low enough elevation that the atmospheric pressure is at the triple point for water, provided it gets warm enough to melt there.
 
That image is quite cool. They talked about this on BBC News, that the orbiter could have taken photos of the Phoenix going in.

Not as spectacular as that same image in a zoomed out version.

What you're actually seeing there as the background is the slope face of a 10km long crater. As seen in this pic. Full article here.
