Phase II - Act One of "KITUMBA"

Too. Damned. Dark.

I can live with that as an artistic choice. I might have gone for a brighter look, but making a choice I might not agree with, is different from making mistakes like sloppy edits or cringe-inducing acting.

I thought the basics of shooting, editing and acting were solid enough not to distract from the enjoyment of the story (which I also think is solid)

It's amazing to me how far everyone has come in terms of acting skill since the early days.

It's doesn't look like an artistic choice. It looks like the gamma is all wrong for computer monitors. Maybe they're shooting for TVs, but if so they oughta do a color correction for the majority who view on computers.

If I remember right, they said this isn't final color; so quite possibly we might get the color correction once the whole episode is up.

I've been trying to not watch it until the entire ep is up. Frustrating to see an incomplete segment.

The notation on the You Tube pages notes it as final sound, no colour. I'm presuming that means no colour correction. :)

I always wait for the final version. In the meanwhile, I watch other Star Trek Fan Films. Yes, even the bad version of this is better than most, but I'd rather see the final final and enjoy it as intended by the artists.

No idea, could be another six months or more. Just depends on how much time there is to do it. Only good thing is that the wait to the net episode should be shorter.

I am waiting for the hard drive from James with all the footage and then my post-production supervisor and I will get to editing and finishing it (with James of course).

This is a priority for me and Mark.

I am also going to wait until the finished product is ready for download. I have seen only the teaser and it looks promising.

Liked it a good deal so far
One minor nitpick
Spock has a good Spock voice but it comes off very hard to hear
If you could tune up the volume in his dialogue somehow would be kewl

That's a general problem I have with lots of productions - background washes out voices. I would KILL for a way to increase voice volume only on DVDs/Blu-Rays.

I wish I could, too. I spent yesterday trying to balance audio using Audition, but there's an actress in the scene whose voice is at the same pitch as a leaf blower in the background. We could barely hear the leaf blower through the ear phones on the camera, and we figured well, we'll fix it in post or through ADR. Lord, that leaf blower cuts through everything like a knife. The ADR sounds a touch echo-ey, and we're working at reducing that now while matching the dialogue to her lips.

Audio is just as challenging as video.

Just an update. I will be picking up the hard drive with Kitumba on it next week when I am in NY inspecting a new facility with the Phase II team. Then Mark Lewis, the Axanar Post Supervisor and I will get to finishing it and getting it out ASAP.
